Hebe (18 mo) has the pox!

She's just showing mild symptoms so far - spots and a tiny bit grumpy from time to time.

I wondered if anyone had experience of chickenpox in younger babies? Obviously we have a 1 month old too and I'd say it was inevitable he gets it.

How were their symptoms?

TIA!

Cara had it when she was 10 months but nowhere as early as lil Sid :(

I have heard though that if you're BF the chances of bubs getting it are slim as they have your immunity?

A friends lil one got it at around 6 weeks and they got it really bad :( so I'd keep a tighter eye on Sid

My brother had it at 3 months I happily shared :) he was fine my mum says he had it really mild compared with me and was just grumpy for a couple of days!

You may get away with on BF'ing thou my sister got it when my younger sister was 3 days old my mum was BF'ing and the younger one never got it and still hasn't she's 11 now

hope all is ok

I heard that about the BFing. My sisters best friend had a baby Christmas Day and her toddler was still covered in chickenpox. The hospital said she could go home to the toddle with the newborn so long as she was feeding and he never got it either....

Hebe is happy as larry ATM and you can actually see them developing before your eyes!

No experience of it but hope Hebe's ok and Sid manages not to get it

OK so I rang NHS direct and babies over 4 wks should be fine but to keep an eye.

I've also been told babies have some 'passive immunity' passed to them from mum which lasts 4-6 months regardless of method of feeding :yay:

Rhys had it when ffion was 6 months and she didn't get it!

Kierans dad got chicken pox when kieran was only 1 week old, of course i panicked but the doc told me that he had my immunity still from being inside me and more so because he was breast fed. I hope Sid doesn't catch it hun and i'm sending hebe non itchy vibes lol xx

She's been totally fine all day. No itching or crabbyness.....till tea time....her fav tea is daddy's fish pie and peas and she took a mouthful, chewed and started screaming and crying but she was trying to eat more....then grabbing the side of her face....I had a feel and they are in her mouth! Poor little bugger! BUT as soon as she stopped eating she's off happy and playing! They obviously sting when she eats though. I'll just let her munch on what ever for a few days and make sure she drinks. I really dont need Sid with them in his mouth :eh:

Bless her - I suppose the good thing is that when they get them quite young they cant remember it! At least I cant, think I had them when I was 2...

Hope Sid doesn't get them :) I'm sure he'll be fine though x

She's totally fine just covered in spots! She's got them on her fairy and in her mouth poor thing so eating tea yesterday they must have been stinging coz she was yelping. I let her have her nappy off all after noon and decided to have a go at potty training as we're confined to the house for up to 2 weeks. We did have a walk out but no socialising so if we're at home she might as well have her bum out and get some air to help heal them :)

Poor lil love, at least she's still pleasant with them. The mouth ones must KILL :(

My friends daughter had them in her mouth and all over her fairy too - poor kid - she had the same sort of attitude towards them as well, she was about 18months too I think. Must be a good age for them to get them over and done with :)
Do you reckon watery foods would be easier for her to swallow? Like pureed mash?

You know Tasha the opposite seems to be true but I think it's not so much the swallowing as when it touched the inside of her cheek. It was fishy pie with peas and mash that had her squealing and today I thought I'd try things she needed to chew rather than it swimming about her mouth and it seemed to work! :)

I see! I shall remember that in the event we ever come across the pox with our LO!
Really hope they pass quickly though, cant be nice for the little love - jeez, I sound like my gran! Little love?! lol!

:-( Poor Hebe. Hope they clear up soon xx
