Chesty cough...help!

Any1 got any pregnancy safe remedies? I've had a sniffle for a few days (thanks dh) but i suffered wiv childhood asthma which although I don't suffer now it makes me prone to chest infections (usually in October wen the weather changes) I avoided it last year but I can feel my chest gettin scratchy and I'm coughing a lot. I wanna do whatever I can to prevent it developing into a full blown infection so welcome any advice and remedies. I've taken vitamins and stocked up in pure orange and paracetamol to try and get my defences up.
I know docs won't do anythin til it's full blown and i'm in agony :/ xxx
