Hi ladies,
My little boy is 5 months old atm, I have been given some money as a gift for him and was thinking of buying his next stage car seat. I'm hoping he will fit in his baby seat until he's as close to 1 as possible but obviously there's no certainty of that happening.

Anyway, for the mums with lo's of similar age what are you gonna do regarding the next car seat? Will you go for forward facing/ rear facing or these i size?

I can't find i size for under £200 and I think that's pretty ridiculous to expect people on may leave to be paying out so much!!!

I know you can't put a price on safety but I think it's a bit steep!

So, what will you be doing?

Xxx

I have been looking at the Joie Stages seat which I have seen recommended a few places. It is suitable from about 9months to age 7 and they can be rear facing til they are 3/4 I think...
Will be watching this thread with interest though.

I like that one too Buzz but still it's quite expensive with the base! X

I literally have no clue about the next car seat. We have the maxi cozi cabriofix with the easy fix base at the moment but I have no idea when he should go into the next size and what we should be looking at. I'm hoping to go to kiddicare and have a look, they've got a huge choice and do a free fitting. either way we will need to get saving! His legs are nearly at the end of his seat so I'm gonna have to consider moving the headrest up, I don't think there's much age wise between our LBs selina so I'll be following this post.

Oh sorry it has no base! Been looking at car seats for hours so I forget which is which!!!!! Xx

Yes Toni, are you in Jan/Feb mummies thread?!
I was gonna post there but thought of others who may not be there too.

It's such a minefield! I have the be safe isofix base and car seat but only got them because it was comparable with my pram (with adapters), the choice was kind of taken out of my hands with that but now I'm just overwhelmed and shocked at the prices of the isofix and the I size!

I do like the maxi cosi axis one but still that £190!! :(

X

Yes I am in jan/Feb mummies thread.

http://www.kiddicare.com/c/Car_Seats_Buying_Guide.htm

I found this if it's any use. Just looked at prices of car seats- wowsers!

I thought I-size was compulsory until I read this.

Will need a degree in blimming car seats at this rate before I buy one!

Lol!!
I've just re-read some simplified info too.
I think I might go with rear facing but not isofix or I size just because of pricing. X

There is a Facebook group called Car seat advice for mummie and daddies. Have a look on there as there are lots of people on there with the same issues and the admin are very good at helping and advising on the best seats.
If you have a car seat specialist near you then I would recommend going there.

Personally, when I moved my eldest from the infancy carried to the next seat I splashed out on a Britax Dualfix, I got it for about £280 in the end as there were lots of deals going on at the time. I love the seat and we are getting our money worth as my youngest will be moving into it.

I would rear face for as long as possible xx

I got the Joie stages after recommendations on here it's great! We aren't using it rear-facing only because ds was forward facing through no choice of our own and he threw an absolute fit when we attempted to rear face. Normally I wouldn't be held to ransom by him but I'm heavily pregnant and tired, so I couldn't be bothered with the faff. He's still safe in his seat so that's the only reason I've left him forward facing.

I'd definitely recommend that facebook group for advice- I started reading it several months before we bought a new car seat and it was excellent for information.

You'd be surprised how long infant seats last for most babies will happily fit in them till 15 months unless your baby is right at the top of the weight and height percentiles.

We've got a couple of different options - got an I-anchor and a max-fix 2 for our cars and then got the Joie stages for grandparents cars.

I have heard that you need to be careful when going to main chain retailers for seat advice and they aren't nexessarily well trained and don't know the detail of wider market selection, saying that though I've never had that experience, as I bought online after researching and fitted myself
