hi any advice anyone?

luke isn't a prem baby but he is small and we took him out in the car seat for the first time yesterday and he had such problem breathing as he was so scrunched up as the car seat was so big for him. when we got home he was really pale and had dark eyes and i'm sure his oxygen was reduced for the journey and he only really pinked up when he had his next feed, it was a little scary.

what we have done now is taken out the newborn padding so he can lie a bit flatter and we'll have to pad him in with towels/ blankets.

how have you all managed and do you have any other suggestions?
wasn't sure where to post this so i'll put it in the prem baby section as well, thanks Lisa

what seat do you have?

If you take the newborn padding out it will make the seat even bigger, and also may compromise his saftey.
Does the seat recline? i found with ewan i would have it full reclined and he was quite comfy.

They also recommend that they should not be in thier car seats for any longer than 20 mins as a new born, which is a bit impractical, but as long as he isnt in it for hours at a time.

we have the chicco notting hill one (travel system) taking the padding out has made it bigger but we padded him around the sides with blankets he was quite tight in it although i realise this isn't ideal. :shhh:

will have a look see if it reclines, thanks for reply

i would check that you have it set up properly, most halford and mother care place will check it for you. Also see if you can get your HV to have a look and advise, as it may not even be to do with the car seat.

thanks health visitor suggested we tilt the seat more in the car so he is lying flatter and that seems to have done the trick.

when we brought madi home (4lb 4) we had to fold a small towel to put under her bum lol
