I fancy a prawn sandwich for lunch, am I allowed? I can't remember...

Shellfish (including prawns) is not recommended because of the increased risk of food poisoning.
If you really want prawns, they are best in a HOT dish and thoughly cooked by yourself, not in a restaurant or anything.

Sowwie no seafood allowed!!!

Its so annoying as I really fancied some scampi the other day, but better to be safe than sorry chick :)

We can have tuna can't we and salmon (does this have to be cooked or can we have smoked?)

mmmmmm smoked salmon and philly bagel....

Prawns (well shellfish in general) are my fave, gutted we can't have them

I have eaten loads of prawn sandwiches! I have also eaten smoked salmon! It depends what list you read if they are forbidden or not. I have never had food poisoning from either of these so my theory is if you buy somewhere realiable they are fine. Victoria Beckham lived on M&S prawns when she was pregnant (and nothing else by the looks of her figure! :rotfl: )

Actually mayber its worth being a littkle more careful in the first tri when your body is a bit more sensitive :D

I have eaten prawn sandwiches. They reson your not ment to eat shellfish is due to the risk of food poisening.

Personnaly I thank provided your are carefull about the seafood you eat, you shouldnt have a problem. If you properly defrost prawns and eat them straight away and aviod getting shellfish from anywhere where they have not been refridgerated right up untill consumption, this should not be a problem. I think the guidlines just say no to all to as to aviod any confusion about what is and isnt safe

ur not supposed to due to risk or something but i have :)

i havent really stopped eating anything since becoming pregnnat, i just avoid booze, and make sure meat is well cooked. oh and eggs no homemade mayo.

other than that eat what you want :D

Ooops had 10 prawn volavonts (sp) at my grandads funeral the other day

you can have prawns in pregnancy,

just in moderation

just found this for you

Is it safe to eat prawns? I've read so many different things. Some say yes, some say no?

Yes, the information available is confusing. There has been some publicity about celebrities eating prawns during pregnancy in spite of the advice that they may be potentially harmful. But in fact that is not the whole story.

The good news is that it is safe to eat prawns and any shellfish as long as they are cooked thoroughly and served as part of a hot meal. This is because, when raw, they might be contaminated with harmful bacteria, viruses and parasites which are usually killed by proper cooking.

You may find it useful to view the information from the Food Standards Agency on healthy eating in pregnancy www.eatwell.gov.uk/agesandstages/pregna ... yrpregnant
