Hey

I'm currently 31 weeks pregnant and looking into buying a sling for the new baby. I already have a son who is 2 so was thinking it is a waste of time buying a double buggy as my son probably wont be in a buggy much longer. Can anyone recommend a really good one? Will pay upto about £50 for one.

Thanks

Natalie

We didn't bother with a double buggy and I'm glad we didn't considering the amount of times so far we've needed it - that being ever! hehe I bought a Kari Me sling and love it, the Huggy tummy to tummy position is loved by Ophelia too :D But there's lots of slings out there, so maybe see if you can try one out first or even buy a couple 2nd hand to try when LO arrives as not all suit all but most have a good re-saleable value :) I got into babywearing late with Isaac and have a Mei Tai Babyhawk for him, but I wouldn't use that with a newborn.

there are quite a few styles out there. The best thing to do is to go along to a local sling meet and see all the different types and try them on and see what you like.

ETA - just noticed you live half an hour away from me (used to live in Stone).I would be happy to meet up and let you test some of my slings if you wanted(I have pouch/stretchy wrap/woven wrap/mai tei). Alternatively I know there is a meeting in Stafford but I don't have the details but could try and find out.

I love my kari-me sling! Really good on the shoulders as it spreads the weight out. I also have a baby bjorn which is fab for OH to wear, and easy to take off and lay them down in, without waking them up! x

Do you want to be able to carry your son too? Baby bjorns don't last long before baby starts to hurt your back and by 20lbs a stretchy wrap would stretch too much. I think you should take Beanie up on her fab offer :D I bought stretchy wraps when pregnant but we've only used woven wraps as they are more supportive. I love my wraps!

I agree with Kalia, if you want a sling that is value for money and will last a long time then get a woven wrap or a mei tai if a wrap isn't for you. I have a stratchy wrap but just can't use it with Cally anymore as she is 20lbs and wriggles far too much. My girasol doesn't budge though once its done up.

I really need to get clued up on my wraps then lol. Can anyone recommend a good woven wrap? was looking into the kari me, they look pretty good but thats a stretch one i think???

Im only looking to really carry the baby around in the sling til my son is able to walk without playing up tho, not a long long term thing.

xx

I've got a pouch sling, similar to this one:

and a mai tai which minxy lent me. I will use the mai tai more when riley gets a bit bigger but for now I love the pouch, so quick, easy and comfy :)

Is this because you've got the older babyhawk, or you just wouldn't use one with a newborn? I've ordered one which I reckon I might use if Lucy wasn't so tiny, she was only 6lbs 6 though so I'd feel more comfortable waiting for her to grow a bit!

Guessing it's better once they're able to hold their own heads up too?

There's a toddlerhawk which is basically longer for taller/heavier babies/toddlers, the babyhawk can be used for newborns I just wouldn't feel comfortable with Ophelia in one, I wanted a sling/wrap to keep her close, her being early and only 5lb 11oz, think she'd have disapeared in a mei tai  They do have headrests to support LO's head, when it arrives you can have a go and see how you feel, you may find its just fine, and its lovely to carry them, have fun, and congratulations on baby Lucy too, she's so beautiful!!

No idea as I'm not a big pouch fan but I know a lot of people like hotslings. Have a look on their website to work out what size you would be.

Ooohhhh I am not a Mum yet but the sling I got is AWESOME!!!

It is soooo comfy (I tried with another baby)and very natural. My MIL sent it to me from Canada, but I believe they will deliver them to UK.

Some like but I hated it. Used it once and then sold it, she did nothing but grump in it.

I've got a Hotslings pouch, great when Louis was a tiny newborn, don't use it as much now, essentially when staying in... but it still fits though.
I have a Babybjorn active, using it much more since he can hold his head and face forward... he loves it to have a look around when we walk to the shops :D
And I also have a Babyhawk mei tai, very comfy (my favourite to wear) but I'll feel more confident with it when Louis is a bit bigger... great to send him to sleep within minutes
