My local freecycle had this message today:

Can anyone please donate unwanted or unused material, wadding or old
sewing machines to ur project to help premature babies or offer to
help make one please!

Birmingham Womens` Hospital ( largest specialist SCBU in the country)
are piloting a scheme which involves incubator covers. The covers
basically are wadded on top and backed with cream or white. They cut
out noise, light and distraction and replicate the conditions in the
womb enabling the pre term baby to continue developing after birth.
Some have been made but we need more! Happily BWH reckon the covers
are very much helping babies to develop after birth and get better
but they need another 30 at least.

It would be fab if anyone would make one or two. They`re not
complicated and the level of workmanship is not being judged!

Basically, you need a 1.5mtrs ( 110cms wide) of poly cotton type
fabric (child friendly pattern or plain) , 1.5 mtrs of backing, 0.5
mtr of wadding.

I have a pattern which I can email. If you can help please pm me!

Thanks very much & fingers crossed! (perhaps toes too!)

I emailed her and asked if it was OK for me to post her details here, and she said it's fine so she can be contacted on [email protected]

here's a pic of one:

If anyone wants instructions, let me know, or email her, I think it would be great if anyone has the time and the skill to make one!
Obviously unless you're near Birmingham you would have to post it off when finished.

Wish I could help but can;t sew to save my life and don't have any material :( I've got some spare baby clothes though that are too small for ryan, and a few blankets we've not used... Wish I could help in some way.
