butternut squash....

bought some to make up for Louie never even heard of it before so haven't a clue what to do with it for him?

in the annabel karmel's book she says
" peel the butternut squash, de-seed it and cut the flesh into 2 1/2 cm cubes steam or boil for 15 minutes or until tender then transfer toa blender and make a puree of it with a little cookin liquid"

then there is a recipe for butternut squash and pear

Cut it in half scoop out the seeds then dot with butter and roast in the oven for about 45 mins. Scoop out the flesh.mmmmmmmmmm

Gabriella has been hilarious with the weaning.
She always pulls a funny face on the first spoonful of anything (even if she has had it before) and she sometimes gets angry with me if I don't feed her quick enough and makes some growling noises She also makes mmmm noises

hi hun
don't aks if he likes it!!! spent all afternoon cooking, butternut squash, carrot & apple & pear (not mixed together!!!)
boiled it, blended it & then froze some, result........ he HATES IT!!!!!!!

gonna try again in a min for lunch time though.
i couldn't believe it, i was covered in food coz the bloody blender splashes food everywhere! & he hated it

any tips?

Try mixing it with something he does like e.g. Sweet potato. Also try mixed with some baby rice, it will reduce how strong the flavour is.

Some good tips from Nicky there; I mixed some baby rice with Gabriella's veg as she was pulling funny faces.

He'll get there; it must be so weird for them after just having milk.

I've just tried Nicola on carrot mixed with milk and she gagged and threw up whereas she she loves the apple puree I make for and the pear - anyother tips on getting LO to eat their veg?

I am going to do some butternut squash this week but don't hold out much hope

have u tried mixing fruit with veggies... thats what mine and my sisters HV said.. sounds gross tho

jack loves apple and butternut squash! hes also had apple and mash before, it sounds weird but does taste quite nice and just makes the veg a bit sweeter for them

MIx it with baby rice to calm the flavour. Arianna loved Butternut squash and Sweet potato mix. Carrot and Apple mix. or Carrot and Apricot mix.

peel and chop a butternut squash! yeah right! Hubby and me spent about 15 mins cursing whilst trying to peel one...

Very hard and totally not necessary.

I totally agree with miracle babe- ie. chop in half and roast.

In fact you can just put the whole thing in foil and into the oven for about 1 hour on about 4-5 gas then just scoop out the flesh after throwing the seeds.

much easier!
