How long do you wind for?

When are babies able to bring up their own wind on their own?

I think babies bring up thier own wind when they are able to sit up properly ( from what I can remember)
Alfie is a big baby (he's already over 12lbs) and can bring his wind up after a few minutes of winding all babies are different I guess, sometimes if he's feeding for awhile I'll sit him up and wind him and then feed him some more that seems to work well for him.

Brody burps by himself, but after a feed, especially at night, I will still pat him and rub his back to make sure it's all up.

Thank you HelenUk so I will need to burp/wind for another 4 months or so?? Is that when babies sit on their own about 6 months??

Sorry Urchin didnt see your post we must of just crossed over. Do they get less wind when they get older?

Hiya, yeah they get less and also bring it up easier. Brody used to really suffer with it but now he's fine. It got ALOT better at around 4-5 months for us.

Charlie doesnt need winding now, she can manage it herself. When she was smaller i used to sit her up and lay her back to bring up wind instead of patting her back for ages, this always worked for her x

Hi

Kiara dont need winding now she burbs on her own at night i do though so she will sleep better. When she was new born i was lucky if ide ever get a burp out of her

Thanks girls for your input. I also do the laying down and sitting her up thing and it is very effective.

i got onto thelaying down and sitting up thing just the othe day! jacob was being restless and wouldn't let me burp him... i was trying to get him into a comfortable position when he did the loudest burp...

i tend to burp him after he's taken an ounce... he brings it up within a minute...

x

Sorry I have just seen this post and was wondering exactly what you mean by laying down and sitting up? Leorah often gets painful wind and a new technique might be good :)

Hi Skatty

To do the laying down/sitting up burping technique you just have them on your lap in a sitting position with you supporting their head (under their chin etc) then gently lay them back so they are lying on your lap (support the back of their head with your other hand).

Personally I found lifting Olivia up under the arms worked best for bringing up her belters!

It's funny whenever I get Otis to sit on my lap to burp him - when he isn't arching back and going *******!!! he then generally falls asleep staring at the celling, he looks so cute once he's finally dosed off with his mouth gapping! But it does seem to do the trick most of the time. I also find that he tends to get really bad gas after BFing, if I express and he gets it in a bottle (how else!!!) then he general is fine and hardly needs to be winded.

Stanley and I have recently discovered the 'continental' method. I sit him up on my lap and rotate his upper body in slow circles.

He's always been difficult to wind but this is working after most feeds and helped his discomfort :D
