Grace used hers for about 2 weeks - she sat up quite early on her own and after that wouldn't used her bumbo - sat in the loft now with all the other things we bought that didn't get used........ but in saying that, my friend has one and her little girl loves sitting in hers and she has used it for months and months
If your LO will sit in it happily I think they'd be great, Isaac hated his from day one, waste of money in his case
Never had a playnest either, just use cushions, much easier and they don't take up anymore space than they already are as household items
They issued some extra safety notices because someone put their baby in one on a table the baby fell out Basically they said don't put them on raised surfaces.
Got to say it was one of my best baby equipment buys. Evie adored hers and spent hours in it, she was far too nosey as a baby and would cry if she was left lying on the floor so it meant she could sit up and see what was going on, I used to just move it around the house with me as I was doing jobs.

We got Ryan his when he was 4 months and he didn't use it a great deal. He can sit up on his own now so it's a bit pointless, he doesn't like sitting still so he just tries to climb out all the time. I think it all depends on what your baby is like, if they're quite easy going then they might sit in it but if they're anything like Ryan they'll probably get bored quite quickly.
We got Ryan one just before Christmas and also bought the tray to go on it. He's come out of it once cos he saw something on the floor he was intent on having. He didn't hurt himself, he just lifted his leg over the middle piece and pulled himself out.
We honestly think it was a good buy.. yeah it cost us £40 when you include the tray, but they sell on ebay for quite a bit anyway so it doesn't matter that we won't get the full price back as we'll get quite a bit of it back.
If you do get one, check out ebay and local papers for a cheaper one (though bear the postage into consideration on ebay) and I would definately recommend the tray that goes with it. Without it on Ryan sort of flops about a bit in it but with it on he'll sit up properly and can put toys on the tray too.
Ryan can't sit up on his own yet btw, if that's a factor.
Thea could sit herself up by 5 months but even so she loved her bumbo. It was great for us with the tray because we used it for BLW because she was too little for her highchair at 6 months.
