We have a 21 month old and a 5 week old. I thought I wanted a bigger gap if we tried for another but I find myself broody, again, lol. We have decided not to go back on birth control but seeing as I'm breastfeeding its very unlikely I''ll be pregnant again for at least a year. That means I'm kind of iin the WTTC catigory. Just wondered if their are any other mums breastfeeding and in the enforced waiting period for TTC?

Hello, not a new bf'ing mummy but thought I'd say hi! I defo wanted a bigger age gap so waiting til my little man is 3 (May) before TTC no 3. Good luck, however I know a few people who have fell pg while bf'ing. Infact, 3 of my friends have less than a year between there kids as that's how they fell. How exciting :) x

Mrs M- I thought I wanted to wait at least 3 years this time too but broodiness is already getting the better of me.
I kept feeding through pregnancy but did loose my milk supply totally mid pregnancy. Our 21 month old has only fed a couple of times since her brother was born and seems to have stopped totally now. I admit that feeding during pregnancy was really hard. I had strong feeding aversion but didnt want to stop LO before she was ready. It would be one of my biggest reasons to leave a bigger gap this time as I'm not sure if I want to feed through pregnancy again. I am 35 though so am worried about waiting too long.

Interesting info sprout. I got my periods back last time while LO was 8.5 months and still a super frequent feeder day and night and I wonder if that was part of it. I had been on a super strict diet because LO had allergies to what I ate and I lost lots of weight. About the same time she started on solids at 6 months I started adding more foods back in my diet and gained a bunch of weight back quite quickly. I admit the thought of too small children terrified me too but I didnt want to wait too much because of my age and I am actually finding it easier than I thought. There are bad days of course but it cant be that bad if I'm thinking about #3 :).

You're so lucky! I'm breastfeeding as well and my AF returned at 8 weeks. :( It always does though, I never get the contraceptive benefits of breastfeeding (or the weight loss ones for that matter!)...

Wow, 8 weeks is quick! I read 14 months is average.

Yeah, it seems like everyone else gets a break and I'm stuck suffering horrible cycle issues from a few weeks after birth! LOL

That link makes very interesting reading, thanks Sprout. I am still bf my almost 19 month old and have been ntnp since October last year, but this month we have started to properly ttc. My periods returned when dd was approx 7 - 8 months old, but I have been anxious that although I seem to have all the signs of ovulating - ovulation pain, ewcm etc, that still bf may actually be preventing this. Time will tell I suppose :)
I take it you were trying when you fell pregnant with baby no 2 BunnyN? How long did it take if you don't mind me asking?
I am pretty much ready to wean dd from the breast now, but she doesn't seem ready to stop and I don't want to push her. I am really hoping she will be ready to wean herself off soon, but want to go at her pace.

Yes were were trying. We did condoms breifly PP but after that decided to go for a NTNP aproach until my periods came back. I had my 1st period at 8.5 months. Then a 39 day cycle, I think I o'd about cd34, but I had run out of OPKs. Then a 29 day cycle with ov on cd22. Ov'd on day 22 my next cycle and got pregnant. I just got my little book out to check the details :). So it took me 3 cycles or 4 months to get pregnant once af came back. There seem to be a lot of women who get pregnant on about their 3rd/4th cycle once their period comes back. A few women dont seem to be able to get pregnant at all while feeding but if your cycles are fairly regular and you have signs of OV I think your chances are good. Sometimes it just takes a while to catch, even when you are not bfing.

I have a 9 week old little girl and I'm in the same boat. We'd like to concieve our second some time this year (ideally around Summer time) but I am exclusively breast feeding so doubt it will happen. I am exclusive express feeding now though due to thrush and baby not wanting to feed from me. I express 4-5 times a day so don't know if that will affect things, no period yet though x

Hope it happens for you soon Rose! One thing to warn you of is that most women's milk supply drops or dries up in tri 2 so if you do get pregnant while your first is that young you will probably have to supplement with formula. From personal experience BFing during pregnancy can be pretty tough too. I stuck it out last time but I would consider weaning if it happens again.

Thanks for the reply BunnyN, it's very encouraging. Hopefully then because my periods returned probably a good 12 months or so ago now and have been regular since, I stand a decent chance. She just feeds whenever she want at the moment, but I might try and cut it down to just nap time and bed time, to hopefully increase my chances further.

LO still fed frequently day and night but she ate a lot of solid food so I think the quantity of milk she was drinking was reduced drasticly. I started weaning with 3 meals a day but introduced an evening snack not long before my periods came back so I think that may have helped.

Also I dont know if it was related but the cycle I got pregnant was the first one I had EWCM. I think it may have been my body getting back to being propperly fertile.
