My baby is 5 days old and I have been breastfeeding. He has been feeding loads, and waking alot and I am trying my best...
I have just tried to express for the 1st time, and from both breasts I only got 1/2 an ounce.
I just feel like my poor boy is constantly hungry...
I had just fed him and he is crying again within 30mins... I'm really feeling awful x

He is building up your supply sweetheart, this is how he stimulates your breasts to make more milk for him. Go with it, it won't be forever, just until they catch up.

Make sure you are eating well and get sleep while you build up your supply. tell visitors to come back another day if you have to (unless they can bring you food/snacks lol)

You are doing really well, these are the hardest few days.

Be careful with the expressing though hun, id probably hang fire for a few weeks. I never got much in the beginning when my supply hadn't settled down, now I get plenty in a few minutes.

Xxxxxxxx

Expressing will never give you an indication of how much baby gets as they are a million times more efficient than a pump. Even now with an EBF 7 month old I only get a couple of oz. I think ATM as Tor said just let him feed, feed, feed. This is perfectly NORMAL and I PROMISE it gets better an easier' hang on in there and in the long run you will be glad you did. Trust your body, ir was made for this! Well done for asking!

yeah hun its totally normal and what hes programmed to do, its not cos you dont have enough milk or arent feeding him enough, its built into him to suckle on you as much as possible for the first week or two of his life, it will get less but the first 6 weeks are the bit where hes establishing your milk well and he will want to feed often. his little tummy is only the size of a thimble at this point so needs filling often :)

You're doing really well hun - I'm mostly expressing but still only get about 4oz - as pinky said you're baby is the best expresser. X

What the others have said hun- you're milk may still only just be coming in so he will need to feed lots.

Some people never get a lot expressing- the only time I do now us first thing in morning after he's not fed during the night.

Until your supply has settled I wouldn't bother trying to express and just let baby build up your supply

Thanks ladies...
He's been up every 1 1/2 feeding for about 45mins... Then up again.
My nipples are so tender and sore. He is latching properly tho...xxx

The other thing to remember is at the moment your babies tummy is really tiny so they need to feed little and often so it does seem like they are always hungry!! AS they get older they take more milk less often and become more efficient!!
Good luck hun!!
xxx

Do you have lanisonah? Best nipple cream and it can stay on when bubs is feeding. I found the lubrication alone during feeds helped!

its the best thing ever

Hang on in there. Bf is a big commitment at the start and the first 2 weeks were really tough but now its so easy. You're doing really great and it can hurt like a b#tch but as others have said it gets easier Xxx

I found it so painful the first 10 days & nearly gave up because O was losing weight to much weight as well. Its getting easier though stick with it you'll be pleased you did :)

Using tapatalk so excuse the typos!
