Hi Girls,
Thanks for the info.
Valentine - I actually breastfed for years
with my other two, but it's been a while and I didn't use a pump to express until they were a bit older (when I needed to leave them with their dad whilst I did my exams). I didn't realise that the colostrum would continue to be produced until the baby was born - how would your body know? Obviously, hormones etc. but it's just that I know that you can breastfeed even if you adopt a child (so no birth required there), so how does the breastfeeding mum, who doesn't give birth, go from colostrum to milk? Perhaps they don't produce colostrum at all? Sorry, you don't have to debate the issue with me really, I just find the whole process quite amazing (I'm a baby bore already and mine isn't even here yet!).
I got my pump from the Boots store in Hamilton. Yes, KJ, it was brand new and the packaging was perfect. It works (although I haven't tried it on my breast and now won't till after 38 weeks!). It was just on a sale shelf, near to the tills. It was marked down to, I think about £22, but when I got to the till, it was reduced again to £15. I had only seen manual ones recently and they were all more expensive than that. When I breastfed (a few years ago now!), I think it was a Boots' own brand electric pump I used. I hate the way they suck your entire aerola and nipple into the narrow tube - I'm guessing they must still work the same way?
Boots have got a 20% discount on all baby stuff right now anyway (i.e. not "sale" stuff), that's everything except nappies and wipes, so I bought some cellular cot blankets and fitted sheets, cotton wool balls and some wooly hats. I have lots of bedding for this baby now - just no bed!
Enn, thanks for the photobucket advice, but it just said "page not found" when I tried your link. I'm waiting on Happy-Chick's kind assistance to help me make a proper signature, so hopefully, I'll get one soon.
