Breastfed my son for 9 months and in that time I tried five different brands of bottle and he wouldn't take any of them. Finally at 9 months when he had no choice as my milk dried up when I was pregnant he took a tommee tippee. With my daughter she was breastfed for a few weeks then we had loads of problems with thrush and I started expressing and using the Medela calma teat bottles, these were excellent, they really do mimic the way they feed from the breast so don't get confused and they can get it out at whatever speed they need so no need to keep buying different speed teats. Eventually I ended up exclusive express feeding her but stuck with the medela bottles.
I had a starter kit of tommee tippee and they have definitely been used so weren't a total waste but I would maybe suggest doing something like buying 1 medela calma bottle, 1 mam, 1 tommee, 1 lansinoh and seeing which one works best for you. Apart from tommee tippee I've seen all of those sold as just single bottles. You could see if someone had a new unused one they'd give you or if you buy a tommee tippee steriliser (I found it was good for all bottles) then they often come with one bottle as a free trial x
