Ever since my son got a thrush infection we've had problems with nappy rash. In the last 24hrs, the skin has gone from looking normal to being really red, sore and in places it's now bleeding. He's had several poos this morning, which has definitely contributed, but I'm cleaning with cotton wool and water rather than wipes. I was putting the yellow metanium on, but after this last nappy change I haven't as I'm not sure it's helping.

Can anyone advise as to what they use with skin that's started to break down? He's so distressed when I'm changing him, it's awful.

If he's had problems with thrush, you do realise you can use canasten cream for fungal nappy rash. I've used this on our son if he's ever been really bad with it and it's cleared it up quickly. I wouldn't use it on broken skin though, maybe try sudocream or savlon until the skin heals then try canasten.

Can you leave him open to the air with no nappy?
Keeping it dry is a big thing thatll help x

GP for bleeding bum if you ask me and lots of nappy free time. Sometimes wacking loads if creams on doesn't help

littlemonkey - we have canesten but it's definitely not fungal at the moment. It's just bleeding from all the poos he's doing and me having to keep washing him.

I'm trying to change his nappy as much as possible. Leaving it all open to the air would be best, just probably a bit messy!

Thanks for your replies. I'll see how it goes the next day or so, if it's still bad, it'll definitely be another trip to the GP.

I got cream off the dr that I had to use 3 nappies per day, and used Vaseline the other times

Orabase paste, I has the same prob with Jake, even the GP couldn't cure it, ended up in the hospital and that's what they gave me, its amazing stuff, wash, dry his bum and then paste that all over it xx
