Hi girlies!!

Have been boiling the stuff for 1 hour and it is still not ready!!!
And I am really hungry!
Does anybody know if it is supposed to be sort of crispy or should I boil it a bit longer!
Bl**dy hate boiling rice! :evil:
 
I always buy the easy cook brown rice from asda and it normally takes about 20 mins to cook. Mine's never crispy though so I'd cook it for a bit longer hun :hug:
 
I always find it a bit chewy! Or maybe I'm not cooking it long enough! :oops: :lol:
 
After an hour you've probably over cooked it.. Brown rice never really seems "cooked" as such so I just cook it to the instructions because its really hard to tell. And I always put too much in and brown rice swells and you end up with absolutely loads!!
 
Probably overcooked it TBH, but it does cook slightly al dente compared to normal white rice.

I have a really easy way of cooking rice thanks to good old Delia.

Measure your rice in a cup and just add double the amount of boiling water (measured from same cup), place in pan with lid on bring to boil and then simmer until all the water has disappeared. Don't take the lid off or you will loose all the steam from the pan which is whats cooking the rice, so use a glass lid so you can see when the water has gone.
 
So say you use 1/2 cup of rice, do you use 1 full cup of water? Thats a good tip Charlie!
 
Thanks girls for replies. I really hate cooking rice, and like kirsty was bying microwave packs, but you cant get brown rice like that :(

Eventually it was edible, but not like white rice :? Will try Charlies method next time :hug:

Yep exactly right, I found cooking rice a nightmare but this method is dead easy.
 
i just use 1 cup of rice, 2 cups of water. pinch of salt and bring to boil then turn the heat off and leave for 30mins, it will be perfect and fluffy and rice keesp the heat in as long as u dont remove lid.

but if your cooking basmati rice, just pour in a cup of rice into pan of boiling water for 10mins, the drain and put lid on and leave for 2mins, it will be perfect

we have rice all the time, i love it.

I do it exactly the same - Except I put the same amount of rice and water in the pan :D

you can get microwave wholemeal rice - i use that when i'm in a hurry :)
