I just want to know if what i'm doing is ok with regards to the way in which i boobie feed DD.

At bedtime (8pm) i start BFing DD on the left for about 90mins. I feed her from the same side if she wakes at night and until about 8/9am when she wakes in the morning. Then throughout the day i feed her on the right side until bedtime where i switch to the left again.

The main reason i do this is so that my left boob is full for DD at bedtime, so she can have a good feed and hence a good sleep.

So, i'm using one side for day and one for the night. Is this ok or am i in for some trouble?

Thanks

If she is content then it may work for you.
If i remember rightly i fed from the same boob until i thought she had a good feed (over 15mins) and then for the next feed i would let her have the other side. If she just had a snacky feed then i would return her to the same breast for the next feed.

I've never heard of this technique before.

Sorry to be nosy, but is there a reason why you can't switch sides overnight? I know its probably to do with what side of the bed she lies on for safety but you could consider swopping sides with a (disgruntled) OH halfway through the night or getting a bed guard?

I would be tempted to follow the traditional advice of one boob per feed (if sure has taken hind milk/emptied boob) then swop to other boob for next feed. If boob not emptied, then start with that boob for next feed to ensure baby gets fatty hind milk then switch to fuller boob. I exclusively breastfed my DD for a year using this technique.

I can't imagine this is very comfy for you, does your one boob not get terribly engorged througout the day? Do you feel lopsided?

I don't know about setting yourself up for trouble, but I am aware that this is not the 'advised' (for want of a better word) way of doing things.

Good luck with however you decide to breastfeed!

This is a recognised technique which I was advised to try when we had a problem with baby not getting enough fore milk. Unfortunately it didn't work for us but if you google 'block feeding' you should be able to get some more info about it. I think the breastfeeding counsellor said it was not usual advice if all going ok but can be used for some BF problems - not sure of the full details though, you could contact a breastfeeding advisor if you wanted more information xx
