Hi all,

we want to stock up on stuck for baby arrives to minimise stuff we have to buy afterwards. s money will be tight.

What disposable nappies would you all recomend for newborns? Also what other stuff can we stock up on. We have some wipes / baby lotion / baby bath etc. But having never had a baby i have no idea what we need and what they just tell you, you need!

Thanks

I am just stocking up on huggies and pampers newborn nappies so if one is not good then hopefully the other will be. Also Cow&Gate formula, johnsons bath stuff, baby wipes, cotton wool and nappy sacks etc.

Great thanks,

I have some huggies and some pampers. I was wondering if the supermarket ones were just as good?

I have some johnsons stuff but they do so much. Baby oil, baby bath, baby lotion, baby this, baby that! Dunno what you actually use!

As for formula i'm hoping breastfeeding will work, if not DP can run out and get some, lol!

I was thinking exactly the same thing!, so far have bought a local brand of newborn nappies to put in hosp bag and then gonna start getting some Pampers each time go to supermarket, also got some wipes. thought if I get something each week should have a little stock by time baby arrives. I would also be interested in what to use for newborn in way of bath stuff, if any should be used and do I need to pack any baby bath stuff for hosp?

so much to think about and time quickly running out!!!!!

My sis in law gave me some pampers newborn. They were too small for her 11lb 1oz baby, aaarrgghh!

And my mum got me some huggies when they were on offer. My sis in law said the huggies were better at containing the mess! But i guess every baby is different!

Yeah i don't know what i need for bathing or even nappy changing, having never changed a nappy in my life!

I bought some Tescos nappies after a few ladies recommended them on here.

I shop on-line there every week so i buy as the offers go on :D

This weeks buy 2x72 Pampers wipes for £1.99(half price) :D

I also bought some Tesco's newborn nappies (I think they are £1.69 for 24) as they were recommended by quite a few people on here and on the ciao.co.uk website. They're supposed to be just as good as Pampers/Huggies but quite a bit cheaper. I think I bought about 4 packs of them plus some formula, bottles, bath stuff, wipes, maternity pads, breast pads etc. I probably wont use half of them but better to be safe than sorry, plus my brother's girlfriend works in Boots so I got about 20% off and did a big shop with her at the weekend :D

Things we needed straight away

Pampers number 1 nappies ( they give you these in the hospital we thought they were ace, we tried huggies but they leaked)

Loads of wipes - we use the huggies ones that are supposed to be like cotton and water ( we took them into hospital and the MW even used them on Logan - no one seemed to bother about using cotom wool and water) Even now when we go shopping we always buy wipes!

nappy bags

sudocrem or other barrier/nappy cream

Moisturiser - my bay was overdue and had dry sin so we mouisturised him after a bath

as for bath stuff I wouldn't bother with much as it is reccomeded that you only use water for the first few weeks (something to do with not exposing them to chemicals that can casue excema) .. after then I used some of the calming bath stuff to help baby off to sleep.... we also got the top to toe wash stuff which can be used for body and hair

If you want to breastfeed then get some breast pads and some kammilosan cream - your nipples will get sore in the first few days but with the cream it soon goes........ but make sure you wear the breast pads as the cream can satin your bra.... :D

Thank you Lyndsey, that's just the info I was looking for. Over here you have to take everything with you.
we're even told to use glass bottles for the 1st 6 months as plastic is bad for them!!!!

tesco nappies are great haven't tried any other supermarket brand

also i spent loads before keeley was born on all johnsons stuff but in all honestly supermarket brands are just as good

also with nappies huggies make boots own and pampers do most of the supermarkets

so they are all good
hope that all makes sense :)

Please don't buy too many size one!! they grow so quick and not everywhere lets you take them back, rather buy more size 3 as they stay in those a lot longer.

We have tried all of the supermaket own brands (except Aldi's - if they do as we dont have one here!)

I think they are all good except for Asda's ones!! They are ok for through the day but once your baby is sleeping all night, I always found arianna was soaked through in the morning!

You can never go wrong with wipes. Cotton wool etc.

I wouldnt buy to much Baby bath, shampoo etc as we got loads in hamper style gifts and I am still using it!! Never had to restock yet!!

Don't forget breast pads for yourself! Honestly you will need so many when you milk first comes in especially if you are breastfeeding.

Sudocrem is always good to have in the house too.

I cant help with the nappies because i use cloth but my friends use tesco own make and say they are just as good if not better than the big brand nappies.

Id be careful about buying too much of anything in one brand. We had lots of huggies wipes because they were on offer. The brought Thea out in a rash so we couldnt use them.

As Lyndsey said...Moisturiser (I used Aqeous(sp?) cream but got it prescribed...take advantage of free prescriptions lol) coz babies who go over usually have dry or cracked skin, Aaliyah's feet are scarred from the cracks she had and she was only 5 days over.

For yourself, stock up on breastpads and sanitry(sp?) pads and the maternity mats are good too, they put them under u in hospital when your in labour and afterwards, my sister bought me a pack from mothercare and i used mine for sleeping on so if i leaked blood would not go everywhere.

wow what an excellent list jade!

personally i wouldn't buy a bath... we used ours twice  in the end it was much easier to have logan in the big bath with us .. we did this from when he was 10 days old. :D

Nappies - tescos own are great and a bargain... 1.64 for 24... ellouise has been in newborn one since birth.. shes nearly 9 weeks now!!! there the only ones that dont leak.. pampers and huggies both leaked her poopy evrywere :l

look out for baby products on buy one get one free and stock up..

you NEED breastpads and lots off...

Hi make sure you stock up on nappies as you will go through about a pack of about 40 or so a week. I found that the best nappies were Huggies but as some of the others have said Tesco nappies are good although a bit bulkier than Huggies. I also used Asda nappies when Jake was newborn which seemed fine. I think with nappies it is a case of trying them to see what suits your baby best. When you buy nappies check the weight on them as different makes have different sizing. I would probably buy some newborn or size 1 and then lots of size 2 as Jake has been in size 2 for quite a few weeks now(he is 16 weeks old and still in them). If you havn't already join the Boots parenting club in store or online and also Tesco and Morrisons have baby clubs and join on the Huggies and Pampers websites and you will receive freebie and money off vouchers. It is also worth stocking up on wet wipes, cotton wool, baby shampoo nappy bags, baby bubble bath, sudocrem and other stuff like this whilst it is on offer. You will also need a baby sponge or something similar, baby towels, loads of bibs and obviously clothes(vests, babygrows, outfits, hats, socks and a coat for outside. A grobag can also be a good investment as the first size is 0-6 months and from something like 7lb and it means that they don't kick the covers off during the night and they can't go underneath the blankets. Try this site

or e bay usually have quite a few cheaper.

Oh and make sure you have plenty of breast pads and maternity pads. I found the best breast pads to be boots ones but the individually wrapped ones with sticky tabs on which come in a box of 40 or something like that not the big cheaper box of 80 as they were rubbish and whatever pads you get I suggest just buying a brand such as kotex night with wings so you don't leak.

Oh, and an essential...

INFACOL

liquild gold that stuff hahaha

a lot of ppl need it from birth but luckily ellouise has only recently needed

but i wud make sure u get it in

it costs less than £2 at home bargains... about £3 at most other places!

hehe  my sister made me that list when i was pregnant, a few people on here have it too, it helped me loads coz i diddn't know where to start!

Yeah baby baths are a waste of money if your able to bathe baby with you, my sister bought me mine but Aaliyah wasn't in hers long but it was easier for me to put her in that on a coffee table in the livingroom because of my stitches, I thought they would never heal they were so painful. Now she uses a bath seat....it's heaven lol much easier than bathing her in a baby bath or holding her in the big bath, you can use 2 hands!
