Hi! Just found out at the weekend after 13months of TTC that I'm pg. :cheer: It's starting to sink in a little. DH is sooooo chuffed, it's all we've ever wanted.

I've only told a couple friends who have been there through the whole year of ups and downs. Not gonna tell anyone else til 12 weeks. Is it wrong that I can't get fully excited until I see it on the scan? I know it could still go wrong and almost don't want to get too attached until I see it on the screen. Does that make any sense?

Anywho! I will be grateful for any advice, I have no idea what to do now!!! When do I tell my doc? Anything I should eat or not? Can I keep exercising? Sorry for sounding so dim. I really didn't expect this any time soon. Got my appoint ment at the hospital at the Gynae unit to check my fertility on the 9th. Better cancel it eh?!:rotfl:

Congratulations on your BFP!!!

Ok start taking folic acid if you haven't already started! As for things you can and cant eat get someone else to help you here - i am hopeless!

I can completely understand about not believing it until you see the baby on screen - i have already had two scans (very early on) and i still find it hard to believe! Got to wait another 2 weeks before i have my 12 week scan - it seems ages away!!!!!

Again congratulations and enjoy your stay in 1st tri x x x

And I don't think its wrong at all to feel as you do. I was much the same. I really felt that in the first 12 weeks, what will be will be and I just tried to get on with things and didn't like to dwell too much on what may or may not happen or get carried away with plans, just in case.

It also took a long while for it to sink in properly that I am carrying a baby. In some ways its still not quite registered. But seeing the baby on the scan at 11 weeks was wonderful and I really allowed myself to get carried away and emotional for the first time. Up until then I'd been quite detached. It's just how I am and how I need to deal with things.

And as has been said, start taking folic acid now until 12 weeks. Get the dose for pregnancy. I'd not go mad for strenuous exercise, but then thats just me. If you have a steady exercise plan and its not overly taxing on your body then fair enough/ I found that the first couple of weeks after finding out I was PG I had energy to carry on with my stuff, then my energy levels nosedived and I hardly had the energy to walk up the stairs for 8 weeks, let alone sit on a bike and pedal for a few miles or take the dogs for an hour long walk  They do recommend you don't cycle outdoors past a certain stage, but that an exercise bike all the way through pregnancy is fine.

Green veggies are good, nibble on fruit, raw carrots, crackers. You'll probably find as time goes on you are better on smaller meals more often than 3 a day.

TBH, so long as you eat well and don't overload on sugar and fats etc you should be fine. They say carbs like pasta, rice and potatoes are good. No liver at all (vitamin A = not good for baby). Or pate. Avoid tuna, swordfish and marlin. I cut out all caffiene, I don't drink alcohol anyways, am eating loads of fresh veg and drinking plenty of water. Lean meat, throughly cooked, and fish twice a week.

Best bet is to go grab a couple of books on it all from the library and have a read at your leisure. I enjoyed browsing through them and found lots of info. Also online sites are good.

:cheer:

Congrtaulations, and try not to worry too much

Woo hooo Trudy, it's great to finally see you in here!!! :cheer: :cheer: :cheer:

If you have been excersise is fine if you already go regularly. Just keep it tame and nothing too vigourous. Swiming, cycling and walking are best for now.

As far as not feeling safe untill you see a scan, well you are amongst friends! I saw a heartbeat on a scan 2 weeks ago but still won't really relax until I make it through the door to second tri. I was given some really good advice when I first came here by Happy_Chick, which was, each day just think 'I am still pregnant right now and everything is okay'. Enjoy, you are over the first hurdle.

I'm glad you're here too Becs, its nice to have a familiar virtual face!

Thanks for the advice everyone. I've been taking the folic acid since TTC. Vigorous exercise is definitely not an option! Just a gentle jog, three times a week on the cross trainer. We eat quite healthily. I'm gonna miss tuna, soft boiled eggs and stinky brie, but it's worth it!

I'd not thought about the meat thing. I love my steaks medium rare. Thanks for that Sherlock! I've got so many questions. Must go buy a book. Any recommendations?

I've got the Baby Bible which is really nice as it tells you week by week what your body and baby are doing.

Yeah I miss all of those. Warm bread and pate is what I really miss this week. I used to like my steak medium rare too or even rare if the chef recommended it. I'm getting quite used to medium.

So have you stopped peeing on a stick every day yet and has it finally sunk in? :D

How did you know? I did 3 tests!!! I've got one left from a double pack so am fighting the urge. Every time I go to the loo and wipe (sorry if TMI!) I keep expecting to see AF has started. Especially with these cramps. It's still so wierd. Loving it tho!!!! :cheer: :cheer: :cheer:

That is excellent news about the steak thought I'd have to have it well done shoe leather. I can cope with medium.

I know what you mean, I adore steak very rare (blue) and can't eat it when cooked past that. So its been off the menu for me. I'd love to eat a juicy rare steak but ah well

Book wise I went to the library and browsed. Found 4 good ones and although some say the same thing, they all have things to contribute. I think its mostly common sense in the early days. Eat and drink well, rest when your body needs it and if morning sickness hits, then of course, it can make you feel miserable and you'll be trying all sorts to find what works for you

O and no hot hot baths. No one told me this but apparently *hot* baths are not good for growing baby. I now do the elbow test before getting in. Another thing I shall miss through the winter is a long hot soak till I look like a prune :?

Congratulations!!

I am also new and in early pregnancy (about 6 weeks i think!) so can't give too much advice, although i would say tell your Dr straight away, the more you do the more real it will seem!

i'm also finding it hard to believe, and am dying to see it on the scan, and i think i have at least 5 / 6 weeks before mine! meeting my midwife for the first time tomorrow, so maybe i can convince her to arrange an early scan! :D

Anyway, congrats again, hope all goes well for you over the next 8 months!

Congratulations  . I've just got my BFP too! Scary isn't it? I think that I'll have a look for the Baby Bible on Amazon as I feel very unprepared for this now!

Congrats to you also :)

From what I understand there is little or nothing to see from such an early scan. If anything it seems to me that in such early scans people seem to be disappointed at the lack of anything to see anyways. And unless there is a valid medical reason for it, I doubt they will consider you for an early one. I'd be inclined to wait for the 12 week one as there is lots to see :D
