Just been going over my consultant appointment in my head. She said the baby was on the 97th percentile - what does that mean?
They told me they don't give estimated birth weight from an ultrasound due to them being 'notoriously inaccurate' so this 97th percentile thing is the only indication of how big my baby will be.... :wall2:

The percentile thing for size is in relation to how big other babies are and where you are shows the percentage of babies that are bigger/smaller. So, if your LO is in the 93%, that means that 93% of babies her size are smaller than her and 7% are bigger

Thanks. Oh dear
But they also said she's just outside of average, so not TOO big... so now I'm confused! Oh well, I'll just have to wait & see I suppose

On my fundal height chart, they have lines for the 10th, 50th and 90th percentiles, some of my measurements have been just over the 90th percentile, but my mw says from feeling the baby, she's not as big as the chart says, although this might be different if its a scan measurement

the "normal or average" is between the 5th and 95th percentile, on the growth scan notes the scales show the 5th percentile as the bottom and the 95th as the top, with a point in the middle being the "optimum average" so i wouldn't be to worried! my hozzy did estimate little man's weight at my 34week growth scan, and it was right up by the 95th percentile! all babies are different, so i wouldn't worry! x

93 out of 100 babies are smaller thats how I would look at it. Mmmmm. They measured my bump size when I was having my little boy and they told me that I was having a whopper...near a 10lb'er...he was 6lb 2oz, says it all really hey x

I was told I was having a big baby, more than 8lb and she was 6lb 12! Don't trust the fundal charts x

In my notes it says that baby is measuring below the 10th percentile, but had a estimated weight of around 5lb 2oz at 37 wks, which by the time he arrives, i doubt he will be tiny.. and im well below the bottom line on the fundal height measurements..but they measure me different everytime i go so dont think that is very realiable! so like everyone said i dont think the estimated weight is very realiable either, everything is all estimated we will only really know what they weigh when they arrive! xx
