Hospital bosses have apologised to two mothers after their babies were accidentally swapped.

One of the babies was breast-fed by the wrong mother, and both babies were given checks including an HIV test.

The incident happened at Bassetlaw Hospital in Worksop, Nottinghamshire, last year. Two staff were disciplined.

A hospital spokesman said an investigation had begun into what was an "extraordinary and most unfortunate incident which we deeply regret."

I have just read this on bt news, I found it shocking as the hospital that is mentioned is so close to home..... I just showed OH and warned him no matter what he is to follow our baby when it is born......lol.

do these people know how todo their jobs, epidural in th arm, swapping babies, as if its hard

Worrying isn't it. :?

I know they blame overstaffing etc but really, how hard is it to make basic checks to prevent this sort of mistake from happening. I don't think it's acceptable.

Thank God that the mistake was realised quickly and those mums didn't take the wrong babies away from the hospital.

i never let Dylan out of my site when he was born..They wanted to take him to special care for blood tests when i asked to go with him they said he probably will get upset..i said more reason for me to be there so went with him.
i can't figure out how it would happen :x

It doesn't surprise me. Theres alot of NHS staff who can't even speak English properly

When I was in hospital with a kidney infection a woman came and asked me some questions and filled out a spread sheet. She could hardly speak english and one of the questions she asked me was 'do you do toilet well'? wtf? I was in so much pain I wanted to smack her. These people shouldn't be anywhere near vunerable people in hospital! I also had another woman come round and try to take my blood pressure in the same arm as my IV  When I was telling her to stop she couldn't even understand what I was trying to say. I then had a man whose english was really bad come round in the middle of the night, wake me up and accuse me of smoking in the toilets! I could barely move let alone go for a fag!

Seriously, I thought I was going to die in that hospital.

Stories like this make me so happy that Thea was born outside of the UK so i didnt have to deal with the NHS

Dear god no
you'd think NHS staff would be able to speak English this is digraceful :x

I think it's terrible that the babies were mixed up,there's definitly no excuse for it.

But I don't think it's fair to blame foreign staff. My mum is a surgery nurse and in her ward there are lots of Filipino nurses who have made the effort to speak decent English and are some of the most hardworking and professional nurses you'll meet :D

And although the NHS is pretty crap atm,it's not their fault they are underfunded :?

On saying that, there was a doctor when i was in hospital,I felt so bad cause I couldn't understand a word she was saying  oh well rather that than pay3k for a section in the Republic

That's awful especialy as one mother thought she had benn breastfeeding and her child and both mothers were using that first hour with their child to bond and get used to each others smell. This must have been totally traumatising!

I seriously hope my home birth does to plan. Yet another reason not to want to set foot inside a hospital!

that is awful

this rele scares me.. im going to be alone at the hospital are you allowed to refuse ur baby from being taken away if they are healthy and fine...? i dont want to let tameron out of my sight now

This is un-nerving - things like this shouldnt happen! I have a CSection booked Friday and I have already giving DH strict instructions not to let the baby out of his sight!
