Baby girl name opinion please!?

Hi Chickadee,

Yes it's pronounced maya.......

Also the friend who used the name Mia is a friend of my OH's sister who's close to his family, so it being similar is not too bad as we don't see each other that often.....

It's just my name is Cliodhna and I have struggled all my life with folks not knowing how to spell it or pronounce it and just called myself Cleo or Cli, I don't want bubs to suffer the same annoying thing......

If that's the case I don't think this is the name for you. I would have spelt it Maya if I heard it. I had to think about how it would be pronounced and I'm still not 100% certain that I've got it right.

I wanted to give my girl a name that everyone could spell and pronounce and that wasn't too long. She's called Gabrielle which is a very long name (I have 9 letters and often on name badges and things I start to run out of space and I didn't want her to have that but there's 9 letters in her name :wall: ), lots of people call her Gabriella (which irritates me intensely - there's an e not an a!!!!) or Gabriel and the health visitor mis-spelt it. I wish I'd gone with an easier name (Jessica). I imagine it would be the same or worse with Maiya.

I think "Maya" would be fine as that's the more conventional spelling.

TBH if you don't see your friend that often, I'd be tempted to go with Mia - but check it with her first. If that's the name you love best you should go for it regardless.

When I first read this I thought you said Maisy (I absolutely adore that name!) but, I really like Maia too! :cheer: x

Mia and Maya (or Maia) are by FAR my favourite names in the whole world. :)

Good taste.

Oh and I agree with the whole spelling of the name thing; my name is Áine (Irish for Anne or Anna) and it is pronounced "Anya". Most non-Irish call me "AIN" and people here in Spain call me "AY-NAY". Its frustrating to say the least. :wall: Just FYI.

FWIW, I've always thought it as Anya :D x

My dads wifes grandaughter is called Mya! Shes so cute! My dad and his wife bring her up! I always loved that name!

If you spell it Maiya and I read it somewhere I would also pronounce it may-ah
I had a work colleague who's daughter was Me-ah and she spelt it Mia which is farily easy to get your head around after the first time you're told if it's meant to be an 'a' or an 'e' I don't know what the difference is with the first spelling....I think it's the extra 'ya' that makes me want to say it differently
