Bought a Premaxx sling and Connie looks squashed in it but I'm sure she is fine. I'm not finding it very comfortable to use as I think I need the back support so have been looking at front carriers.

Bought this one http://direct.tesco.com/q/R.202-3261.aspx but have found it very bulky and it's like a straight jacket. Looking at getting this one http://www.toysrus.co.uk/Product.aspx/B ... ers/380210 .

I just need a reccomendation for a good one please that isn't overly bulky and is lightweight for when I pop to the shops.

We absolutely love our kari me but it is a sling, not a carrier.

OH used to say that he looks like Tarzan (??? ) with it but when he saw how much LO loved it he insists wearing it. When LO was newborn we used the cuddly position, and later combined cuddly (when she was sleeping) with tummy to tummy. Now we are using 'facing the world'.

In the early days the sling was a lifesaver!!!

I forgot to say that if you are breastfeeding kari me is perfect for that too!

Between all 4 children i've had various carriers but have found mei tai and wrap slings the best. In a mei tai you can carry the baby facing you on your front, on your side or on your back and its very easy to put on. A wrap is a liittle more difficult to start with but as soon as you've done it a couple of times it's really easy.

heres a pic of me wearing leela in a mei tai

got none of the sling yet

I personally would nto recommend one of those kind of carriers. They aren't as supportive as others so over a certain weight you may struggle to carry baby, they can be quite fiddly to out on (I used to hate trying to gert Seren into ours) and there are some suggestions that they are bad for baby's developing spine due to the manner in which the baby is carried (they get tagged crotch danglers) though this hasn't been proven.

I would instead recommend a sling, such as a wrap or a meitai. They will allow you to carry baby till they are 40lbs, are easy to put on, and are so much better for your back as they spread the load. As baby is carried in the sling like they would be in your arms (with their knees higher then their bum) it is meant to be better on their hips and spine. Plus there are so many gorgeous colours and patterns - but it can be addictive and I hold no responsibility for any addictions that may develop. There have been a few threads on here about different types.
