My poor little boy is only eating 2-2.5 oz each feed now - really worried :(
I've the health visitor tomorrow, so I will ask her. Do appetites dip from time to time?

It may be all he wants sweetheart. I find that some days B has a really hungry day where she is ravenous and other days she can take it or leave it. I know she's a bit older but she can have 18oz one day and be perfectly happy, then the next day eat 10oz more. I really worried in the beginning about how much she was having as it does change all the time, but honestly - if Eliot's hungry he will let you know xxx

whn my lo was a newborn and i expressed, he would only have 2 or 3oz at a time. i deffo think that your lo will let you know when he has drank enough. deffo speak to ur hv though if u are worried but im sure its nothing serious.... newborns and babies are like us, some days we are really hungry, other days not so much! how many hours does he go between feeds?? and how much has he dropped by? remember his belly will still only be teeny weeny.

Thanks girls - I agree with what you're saying 100%, and my instincts say he is fine and just eating what he wants. But it's the MWs and HVs who really worry you if babies aren't following their plan. I cannot wait to be without them - I know that sounds ungrateful to them, but quite honestly I've had enough of their inconsistent advice and their concerned looks. Do you know what I mean? I am of the mind that babies are human beings and will eat when they want just like us adults, but HVs and MWs seem to treat them like robots with a textbook 'norm'. Causing me sooo much worry. I really appreciate proper advice from actual parents like you guys xxxxx

Sunny, you're so right about alot of mw's and hv's. I had a really awful midwife and the day she discharged I nearly had a party
Just go with what you feel is right. Some advice I just take with a pinch of salt :hugs:,

I do agree about mws and hvs, they are so inconsistent and just make you worry. Not everyone can follow their charts. If Elliot lost a lot of weight, do prepare for more concerned looks.

A only regained his birth weight after 3 weeks and they are still expecting him to be on 50 centile where he was when he was born. Its impossible for him to gain 600 gramms in one week but they just dismiss the facts and look in their charts

I'm having the same dilemma with Sophia atm. She is only just over a week old and we started mixed feeding but she just won't latch at all anymore and she when she did she wouldn't stay on the breast for long at all. Ended up topping her up at every feed so have just moved to FF. I've got her on Cow and Gate and honestly she doesn't seem to be getting on with it at all. She is drinking so little and is going for over 5 hours at night sometimes with no feed. One night she went 6 hours so I've been having to wake to feed or at least try. She also is very windy and we have had a few projectile sick incidents! I'm terribly worried that she will have lost more weight by Thurs when the MW comes a I can't see how she has been getting enough. Otherwise though she seems content. We have started with Infacol before feeds now to see if it helps but I think I'm gonna switch to Aptamil and give it a go. She actually doesn't seem to like the taste of Cow and Gate very much :(
