Anyone know about taking in clothes??

I bought a gorgeous dress in monsoon, it is a silk halterneck and was greatly reduced as it was the last one so I got a real bargain and am hoping to wear it at a christening this summer. BUT I had to buy it in a size bigger than I am thinking I could just take it in. It is only too big on the part of fabric from the bust area round the back to the other side, if i pinch it in on both sides of the bust it fits perfectly, so it would only need taking in here If the back amount of fabric was just made smaller that would make it perfect.

How easy is it to do this yourself and in very simple terms, how do you do it??!!

hi my mums a dressmaker and it is a pretty much specialist trade for it to be done properly,do you have any dressmakers in your area that you could take it to?
i dont know if i would attempt it myself in case it got spoilt,most dressmakers would not charge you too much for this to be done.
if you try it on and put pins in the material where you want it taking in to the dressmaker will be able to follow the line.

Awwwww if I lived in Somerset still I would come see you and get my mammy to take it in for you she makes dresses and does adjustments and stuff shes not a professional but she has made lots of dresses and adjusted lots of wedding dresses. Other than that I would say take it too a dressmaker somewhere near by Or the only other thing I can think of depending on the dress is to get a safty pin(bit risky on silk though) and pin it at the back then put a sash around it to cover the pin? But it depends what the dress is like it might not suit it and it might damage the fabric too much.

Thanks both of you I think I was being a bit too keen thinking I could do it myself I think OH's mum might be able to do it he said she can so will have to be cheeky and ask her!!xx
