A medela symphony breast pump? I'm thinking of hiring one for a few months once LO is here..

not had this one but have the medela swing which is excellent.

Swing here as well! Highly recommend it.

I have the Swing too and it's worth every penny and has a really good resale value on eBay if you don't use it a lot and want to sell it again. My midwife lent me the Symphony for a week and it was really good, but only better than the Swing if you want a double pump. I only pump one breast at a time anyway. Depends on how the costs weigh out for you. A Swing costs just over £100 new and they tend to re-sell, used, on eBay at up to £80, so I feel that it's worth buying one.
x

When I looked at hiring it was cheaper to buy one....not sure why? x

The symphony is hospital grade so costs in excess of £2000 new.. I know everyone here seems to recommend the swing though so I'm not sure.
Cost of hire of the symphony is £40 per month but i will realistically probably only bf for 2-3 months.

Why will you realistically for 2-3 months?

I said that and still going at 8 months

Yes! It's amazing!

It's the one I used in hospital, as I couldn't get Finn to latch initially and this pump saved my sanity!

We hired it for a month after he was born until I could get breast feeding established.

IMO it is better than the swing (I now have the medela swing as I borrowed it from a friend) but it is bound to be more efficient due to the price! I loved it and was sad to have to send it back! x

Just because I doubt I will have the time to express after this long and bf won't be possible after this time either unfortunately.

Oh great, thanks. I think I will probably hire this then- just wanted a first hand review before I did!

Just to let you know I've hired a medela symphony to try and it's amazing! Took half the time to get enough for a feed, it's quiet and I found it very comfortable. Would recommend to anyone serious about regular pumping.

Excellent, thank you.

Can I ask where you hired it from? I've found a few places online that all seem similar prices etc.

I've hired it from express yourself mums - same price as everywhere else but delivery was the quickest.

Thank you :)

Another question! Does it come with everything you need? (aside from storage pots etc).

Yes it comes with everything and easy instructions. Obviously you will need your own feeding bottles and some sort of storage container.
The machine is per used but all the other equipment is brand new you just have to sterilise it all before use.
I've even ordered myself a hands free bra off eBay today!

I've made my own till the other one arrives! A sports bra with 2 holes cut in!
