Anyone had an abcess?

Hello everyone!

Has anyone here ever had an abcess at the base of their spine?

I think that's what it's called medically, although I would have to describe mine as "an abcess at the top of my bum crack"

I've got a sore lump there and I also feel a bit fluy.....my glands in my neck have that feeling you get before a cold.

Does this sound familiar to anyone?

It's called a pilonidal abcess, very sore and uncomfy. I had one, back in 2002, the doctor tried to treat it with anti-biotics, in the hope it would go away but it didn't, it burst on it's own. By that time, it was just a little smaller than a golf ball.

I understand what you are going through but if it's the size it is now, chances are it will need to be drained as anti-biotics won't get rid of it.

It's formed because sweat gathers at the base of our spins, blocking the hair duct, forcing the hair to grown downwards, rather than upwards, causing an infection, the hair, commonly will wrap it's self round the spine, at times.

Have you been to the doctor? The pain will only get worse, due to the place it is in and obv. it being an infection. They can start off like a dimple and within 1 -2 days, can be twice the size of a pee. I'd get this treated ASAP hun..............if it does burst or needs to be drained and it's about the size I said right above or half the size, you're looking at a good 3 months before it heals properly. You'd have to get the dressing's changed every day, after about 3-4 weeks, every other day.
