Sorry really random question but last summer I had an eye test and mentioned to the Optician I had eye floaters and had, had them for a while.
He gave me a normal eye test and couldn't find any thing wrong (apart from the fact I need Glasses!). He then told me they can be a sign of a detatched retina and I should have a special test to find out.

I haven't been for the test because he freaked me out but I still have the floaters does anyone else have these too?
I find they are more noticable on a bright day like today or when I am in a light room. My living room is painted beige so they stand out more then.

I'm just wondering if i had a detatched retina I would have known by now.

Thanks in advance if anyone replies to that long winded post :D

I mention this every time I have my eyes tested as I have them all the time (my OH thought I was losing the plot a few weeks ago as I was "playing" with a floater....trying to catch it in my central vision which is impossible but I was bored lol)

I am always told they are just the light catching dead cells floating around inside the eyeball, they are actually tiny little cells but because of where they are, they are magnified.

If your optician has said that I would seek a second opinion first, maybe go for another eye test with a different optician?

I've had them for as long as I can remember. never really thought about it before though, I just thought everyone had them.

I've got them too. Hardly ever notice they're there but when I do notice...grrrr...they're so irritating!

I think I might go to another Optician and get a second Opinion. They were just really irritatingme today.

I thought everyone had them  Ive had them for as long as I can remember too

always worth getting it checked out my grandmother had floaters years ago and when she finally got it checked out she had a detached retina and ended up losing her sight in the one eye there are things they can do to stop it getting worse or even repair it always worth finding out for sure xxxxxxxx

I have quite a few too, I mentioned them to my optician a couple of years ago and he said it was normal unless you get a lot very suddenly.

Wow, thanks for the replies I never expected to get any with it being such a random question.

I have had them for as long as I can remember and i don't think they have got any worse.
At my last eye test I never had a proper retina examination he just gave my eyes a thorough test and said he couldn't see anything wrong.

Some days I notice them and others I don't. Maybe i'll pluck up the courage to go and be tested properly when I've had the baby.
