My baby is 8 weeks old. When she was born, she was hospitalised for a week and had to have several blood tests. The paediatrician said that to sooth her through the pain, i could put my little finger in her mouth for her to suck. This worked brilliantly, but now I can`t wean her off my finer on to a soother. :wall:
I have tried EVERYTHING, different shaped ones, dipping them in sugared water, and persistace, but as soon as I put the soother in she screams, she hates it. So I m stuck with my fnger in her mouth. :wall: Has any one please got any ideas how I can overcome this problem, I would be so grateful.

no sorry1 i have this mental image of your little finger all wrinkled up like you've been in the bath too long :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:

I did this with Thomas as well I had visions of him walking around tesco with his finger in my mouth! The mw told me I shouldn't do it as it wasn't sterile so I got a dummy, we had to hold it in his mouth while he sucked and now sometimes he takes it and sometimes he spits but try just holding it there and see what happens x

I tried holding it in her mouth and she goes mad, struggling and screaming, its so distressing I have to stop. I wish that paediatrician had suggested a dummy instead, then she would never have known about bloody fingers :x

it seems harsh, but just stop putting ur finger in her mouth. After a day or 2 she will get the hint. it will be a hard few days but better in the long run

I would of thought a cherry teat would be good as it's the most like a finger, you need to go to a corner shop and get a 10p one they normally work  the more remote the shop the better so when you loose it you have to travel miles for a new one

Thats what i found with Conal anyway :wall:

Thanks for he replies everyone, am off to mothercare now fro a cherry dummy, never heard of them so fingers crossed !! ( excuse the pun)

Good luck with weaning her off it, but its better for her to use a dummy for comfort the your finger.Do persist with it, she will soon get the idea that mummys not giving in.
