I went to an all day workshop, like 3 of the big topics rolled into 1 (birth, pain relief and looking after a baby)
we watched 2 videos of birth eeek
(ive tried to put it out of my mind)
a lot of it was things ive read but also i picked up some useful things too. I also felt it gave OH a chance to feel like he was getting involved, he knows next to nothing compared to me because ive read pretty much everything going relating to pg and birth, he has kept his distance lol
I think the mw did a very good job in telling the men in the group how to be helpful and how not to take it personally if us ladies snap, shout etc. (and buy us flowers)
I feel a lot more comfortable about what i am meant to do when labour actually does begin. the mw gave us some stats on what types of births, procedures ect happened this time last year which i think was good (52% of ladies 'tore' last year which is a lot less than i thought - phew (i might not
)
The only down side to the day long class was getting more and more uncomfortable as the day went on, especially as we were sitting on the floor with lots of cushions (a lot less comfy than it sounds
)
I know some ppl are critical about nhs classes but i think it was well woth going. the group was a reasonacle size (10 couples) and we split into smaller groups when it came to discussions/activities so it was still very comfortable. i did learn quite a bit too but the most important thing i think was that it made my impending motherhood seem a lot more real and i feel comfortable with it (well as much as i can be)
