Hey everyone. I've yet another question for you...

Ok, theres alot more to the story, but I'm just cutting it short, so if it seems a bit off, I apologise.

If sex occured around 1- 1 1/2 days before a period, is this enough time to fertalise? We were talking about it and came to the conclusion that it's not possible to fertalise while the egg is being released.

It is extremely unlikely you would become pregnant 1 - 1 1/2 days before your period.

The best time to fertilise the egg would be around ovulation time which is usually about 14 days before your period. The egg only lives for about 12 hours after being released from the ovary, it is during this 12 hours that fertilization should take place. the embryo then needs about 7 days to travel through your tubes into the uterus, it will then implant into the uterus wall. This is why you need a luteal phase (time between ovulation and your period) of at least 10 days to enable the embryo enough time to implant properly.

HTH

It would be rare to ovulate so close to your period but say you did, then I suppose there is a chance becasue while you were bleeding the egg and sperm would be doing its stuff in the tube, so I would say yes, it's possible, but unlikely.
