Conflicting advice from midwives! One says baby should be feeding at least 6 decent feeds per day...another one says the 4 I've managed so far is fine as baby is only taking what he needs! This is why ff has got to be easier...at least I can see what he'd be drinking!!

Any advice? xx

unfortunately with breastfeeding you can only really go on what's coming out the other end, and whether baby is putting on weight.
Stick with it, if at least one midwife is happy with how you're doing, it's clearly not a huge problem... good luck!

As above ...

Stick with it, you're doing great.

I was really stressed at the start about how much dd was feeding. She is 12 days old now and a couple days ago was logging which breast how long feed was from start to finish. Been reading the le leche league book and it helped me relax so I am not stressing about things. As suggested previously your little one is having regular dirty nappies then that is a good sign they are getting enough. Another thing you can do is listen for her swallowing during a feed. It was useless me recording how long she was on a breast as she would not be swallowing at the same rate each time as she was have little pauses. After a feed u will probably notice she is sleepy, this is due to oxytocin and is also a good indicator she has a good feed. I'm sure you are doing a great job and hope the forum has helped put it mind at ease. X

I personally don't think there is a set amount baby should feed. My lo fed nearly every hour when he was newborn (i think he liked little and often!) where as some of my friends babies would go up to 3 hours between feeds. Like the other ladies have said as long as baby is gaining weight and having wet and dirty nappies go with them. Trust your body.
