Hi everyone

My husband and I started trying to get pregnant just this last month and are keeping our fingers tightly crossed that we will get lucky soon! My problem is that my parents in law are arranging a big family holiday to Las Vegas in May next year when I will hopefully be pregnant (the familly dont know that we are trying) and they want us to book the holiday now. My question is, to those who have been through pregnancy is, am I MAD to be even considering booking this holiday when I dont know if I will be pregnant and if I am pregnant I can't plan just how pregnant I will be...it could be a nightmare???

I would be very grateful for all comments as I am totally confused as I have never been pregnant before and have no idea what to expect!

Thanks so much

I would say book it - it might take you a while to conceive and you might miss a great holiday. If you get your BFP you can always cancel the holiday if the doctor tells you to. Go for it - often people actually conceive on holiday as well as they are more relaxed (sure a few women on here will be a testominy of that!)

I went on holiday whien i was 7 weeks pregnant with Lola but the holiday was booked before i found out i was pregnant.

Nothing happened to her but i did feel guilty about flying whilst pregnant but i think so long as your not in your last trimester you should be ok.

Good luck ttc :D

I'd go for it, you'll be fine! If you are preg u can always cancel as someone else said but im sure you would appreciate the break too :)

well, even if you fall pregnant right away you'll be six months when you travel. I think seven months is the cut off point for long haul flights?

If you really want the holiday then I would postpone TTC until January which means you'll be in the second trimester when you travel (that's usually the easiest stage!)

good luck!

Thanks for all your comments already. I have only just joined the site and cant believe how supportive you all are! I can see that I could get hooked on this site!

My husband and I are going to make our decision based on the comments on here so if more people say "Go" than say "Stay" then we are off to Vegas! MORE COMMENTS PLEASE...the wider the survey the happier I will be with the decision!

Thanks x

the problem with vegas is that there are lots of rides to go on. If your not bothered about missing them thats ok. But also there is a lot of drinking & smoking still in most buildings (though it never seems that smoking).

Its the best place ever but also its a long flight and i was sick the whole journey home.

Also if your preg you can't buy clothes for you but they have amazing baby shops!

And the food is amazing. You would not need to feel guilty eating lots in the buffets :D

what a difficult decision

Go for it...

I went on holiday at 16 weeks on a Disney Cruise, then to Finland afterwards... It was tiring as we did a LOT of walking as we went to Pompeii and such..

I also went to Las Vegas for our honeymoon (take good shoes with you btw... theres a lot of walking to be done there too).

I wouldn't say there was any reason that going to Las Vegas would be a problem... I can't remember that there was anything "dangerous" for pregnant women to do.. There was lots of sitting at craps tables for me as DH loves it... We also went to a Star Trek convention then the Star Trek experience but even the rides they had there weren't that bad.... and the US has a far better range of baby/maternity products than the UK do... and you will get some nice things.

I went to the US when I was 9 weeks pregnant with Tia and I got some fabulous maternity wear... I still have one of the dresses which I will be wearing at xmas this year :)

Go enjoy yourself, because when the baby comes along then I wouldn't recommend Las Vegas as a destination... it's definitely a grown ups playground.

Go for it, but make sure you take out holiday insurance as soon as you book it. That way if you need to cancel due to complications with pregnancy (good luck and hopefully you won't) you will get your money back.

I would definitely get it booked up now, you don't know how long it will take you to get your BFP and you'd be gutted to not be going on holiday and not be preggers... If you are pregnant you can still go, even if you're quite far along, most airlines let you fly up until 35 weeks and there's no more risks to a pregnant woman flying than a non pregnant woman.

I have a pregnant friend who lives in the states and is always flying back to the uk.

Good advice from Nicky regarding getting travel insurance beforehand.

definitely book it!!

you might not get your bfp immediately and i don't think you should deny yourself an amazing holiday just because you might be pregnant.

you can fly up to 35 weeks with a doctors note (depending on the airline); since getting pregnant, i've flown to spain (10 weeks), san francisco (20 weeks) and will be flying to lanzarote (27 weeks) and belfast (32 weeks). you're at a slightly higher risk of dvt, but i've got some of those sexy socks and just make an effort to keep my legs & feet moving.

las vegas is fab - you'll have an amazing time. and as has already been said, the shopping is great and soooo cheap.

check the small print in the travel insurance policies - different companies cover for different things when you're pregnant.

have a great time!! :cheer: :cheer:

book it hun! if u get pg straight away and are too preg by then u can always cancel. but if u DONT book it, and dont get pg either, u will spend that time really miserable.
hope u get ur bfp AND njoy a good holiday!

I agree with this!

Welcome to the forum.

Most travel insurance companies insure you up to 29w pregnant so even if you get pregnant right away you should be fine.

I last flew to Greece at 20w (4h) and wore the attractive socks and will be flying at 32w just up to my parents in Glasgow - I decided it was safer to fly then than sit in a car for 6h!
