Do you think a boy who is 3 in 5/6 weeks knows what he is saying is so hurtful?

For the last week, all I have had is 'I just like Daddy', and 'I don't love you'. I just want to cry! Last week he was telling me I love you so much mammy. I don't know if he means what he is saying, or why he is saying it.

I don't think he means it hun. My 3 year old is always saying she loves daddy ect then other days she loves me I don't think they really understand why what they say is hurtful to us. I wouldn't worry hun :) I was the bad mammy today as I said she had to go to bed lol and daddy was now her best friend ;)

Id ignore the mean stuff
They get nothing from you then
If you react its worth him continuing
Negative response is still a response to them x

I got this type of behaviour from my daughter just before she was 3. It stopped pretty quickly. I used to either not respond or I'd say something like "well mummy loves you, whatever you say, so there!" followed by a huge smile and a hug. I think she did understand what she was saying and was just trying to provoke a reaction rather than meaning it, but I agree, it feels really hurtful at the time xx

Ella1979 I like that response! Will try it tomorrow!

It was me he wanted at 2 am when he woke up screaming! I asked him why and he said he got sad. How cute!
