I keep reading different things online.
Some websites saying at 30 onwards your chances dip some 35. Can anyone offer any light?

I read that up until 35 you have a 20% chance of conceiving every cycle but after 35 it drops to a 12.5% chance. I still imagine that it must be a gradual decline though, there can't just be a switch that flicks off at 35, and the decline must be different for everyone.

Fertility actually peaks at 24 and very slowly drops off every year after that. I heard it’s 20-25% at 25, 15-20% at 30 and then 10-15% by 35. Obviously we all decline at different rates. 30 is still quite young. I wouldn’t think age would be much of a factor yet so don’t worry x

Iv heard different things. There was a fertility doctor on this morning a few weeks back that said it wasn’t true that at 35 you’ve less of a chance. Then my own doctor said to me at 35 there is a decline as I’d like to have another baby.

The most important thing you can do for your chances is make sure your health is the best it can be. Plenty of women are getting pregnant over 35 and the NHS studies are not up to date at all. I read somewhere that fertility data was largely taken from studies of 19th century French peasant women still. The book 'The Impatient Women's Guide to Getting Pregnant' had some interesting stuff on this and is very encouraging for older women.

I think overall your chances are better under 30 than over 30 just as they're better under 35 than over 35 but that doesn't account for all the other factors that can play a part in conception. Lots of women under 30 struggle yet plenty of women over 40 struggle. nothing is as cut and dry as they make out. I was 28 when we started trying but didn't catch until I was 31 when my chances were apparently poorer. I tried not to focus too much on these things as they generally don't offer anything positive.

Very true. I have heard this too. 19th century statistics. Yes you won't be as fertile as u were in your 20s but there is a lot of scaremongering out there. My doctor and nurse informed me that women in their 30s and 40s are having babies a lot now.

My doctor also said if u have problems in your 30s it is likely you would havd had those issues in your 20s. My friend has just gotten pregnant at 40 with her first!

For some reason I had it in my head that it declines at 30 but drops a lot more at 35. I’m 29 and I’m determined to get a sticky BFP before I’m 30 in April haha

It's true about the outdated info on women and pregnancy. I saw this funny video about it and it blew my mind! I will try to find it for you!x

Here it is!
Ha ha! Yes, it's 16th century rural France...even worse. And no one factors in the fact that these women probably already had 10 kids...maybe they had stopped having sex! Plus modern diet is so much better....people live much longer, age slower (I think), and we have all this knowledge about fertility and things like opks. It's incredible that so little research has been done on modern fertility!

I also read that the group of women having the highest number of abortions these days is women over 40 because they were told that they were no longer fertile so stopped using protection...it's higher than the number of teenagers!!

The clip is actually longer and also talks about pregnancy and breast vs bottle. I really love how they make it easy to understand!

I remember being desperate to get a BFp before I hit 30, I’d had a mmc when I was just 29... I remember fearing all these things. I did in fact get my sticky bfp before I hit 30, just managed to get into second tri as well before I got to 30 and all was good so I guess I hit my goal!!
However we decided to ttc for number 2 when I was 35 and I had her at 36.
Despite my age worries at that time we are now ttc for number 3 at nearly 41 something I never thought I’d do...my girls complete me however and if it’s not meant to be I’mdefinately ok with that but I am intrigued about whether things will be different this time.
