My son is nearly 8 months old, his crawling.. eating solids, smiles loads & has no emotional problems and reacts well to things around him.

For about a month now he has started moving his wrists alot... like his turning his hands.

Someone has mentioned this could be an early sign of autism? Please can u give me some advice?

Thanks xxxxxx

Hi! I think I know what you mean with his wrists but please try not to worry, lots of babies do this. My eldest did it but my middle boy didn't. Hit and miss I suppose! I do think it's cute.

It sounds like he's doing really well! Of course if your still worried talk to your HV Hun. Xx

Isla does this when shes excited, and probably has done for a couple of months. Who told you it was a sign for autism??

My friends baby does this and when she read up on it she found out it means he wants something, then she just needs to work out what he wants, lol! Don't know where she got her info from but it seems to fit his behaviour xxx

I have an appointment with the health visitor today at 2:30! Im terrified!! Ever since it was mentioned I cant stop thinking into it! I didnt even notice before today that he doesnt respond to his name being called either! Ive spent all morning calling his name and just crying when he doesnt respond! :( xxxx

I think smiling is a good sign that he isn't autistic hun. When my LO was 6 weeks old and hadn't smiled the HV worried me sick because she said he should've smiled by now and so I looked up not smiling onlineand autism came up, and one of the earlly early tests they can do is to check if the baby is smiling or not.

My baby smiled a day or 2 after the HV sent me into a panic!!

my lo knows his name but i think he has slected hearing lol! when hes busy playing etc he doesnt always turn round or respond to me! i think the fact he's smiling, like maria said is a good sign - just look how beautiful his smile is in your avatar!!!, and as for the wrist thing who told you that? my lo does this quite alot but i think its just because hes figuring out how his hands work - co-ordination etc, not because of autism?

try not to worry im sure everything is fine!!!!

Please don't worry. Oscar always twizzles his wrists around in circles and I had no idea about the autism thing. He does it practically all the time especially when he is concentrating. It seems to be waning now tho...
