I heard a story once
Or maybe it was a documentary
About a mother sea turtle
And every year she swims
Hundreds and hundreds of miles
To return to the place she was hatched
And every year she lays
One hundred and fifty eggs
Buried deep in the sand
And with each egg she leaves a wish
But each year, as the eggs grow
They get stood on and smashed
And maybe some of them hatch
But they get lost on their way to the sea
Or they get eaten by birds
But each year the mother turtle returns
Because perhaps once or twice
One of those eggs will hatch
And all the mother turtles dreams
And wishes and hopes will be realised
I used to wonder how the mother turtle could do it
To return year after year
Knowing how many of her turtles wouldnt make it
But nothing is ever certain
Life rarely goes to plan
And above all, I can always hope
So here I am
Just one mother turtle
Hoping this time my dreams
Will make it all the way to the sea
