Seems pretty big for this stage surely?

Anyone elses baby this big at 34 weeks?

He is measuring a bit bigger than his dates and his femur length seems to be off the scale.

How am i going to push this child out?!!!

lol

Im going to sound a bit thick now, but how do they know how heavy he is? Is it through measuring your bump? Ive often wondered how they tell how big your baby is going to be.

I think it is more of a guestimate but they tell from the measurements on the growth scan.

Oh right. I had a scan at week 20 and im not due to have another scan. Well not as far as I know anyway.

Same here lella, we had a 4D scan but not for measurements and so have no idea how small or big he is, but I agree with Flame it's some guestimate, some good old MW experience :)

I have growth scans every 4 weeks (2 as of now) because of the Clexane i have thats the only reason i have more than normal.

When i had my 20 week scan they took loads of measurements and s/he was growing well according to dates. Im going to ask my midwife next week about weights etc.

I've not heard of Clexane before Flame, sorry if you've mentioned it before, but could I ask what it is? I do hope everythings going well and continues to do so

Flame im like you, wondering how the heck am gonna push this baby out. i had a growth scan yest n which they told me baby's current average weight was 7lb 5oz!!!

I cant help but wonder just how much bigger baby is gonna get if that is it at 36 + 5 wk

Love Kazz xx

Clexane is an anticoagulant to prevent blood clotting. Everything is going fine at the moment thank you :D

Kazz - They say that baby gains about 1lb a week from around now, I shall have to keep my eye on how much yours weighs when they get here so i know whether its right or not.

At my 35 week mw appointment she said bubs was about 6lb too, and at 37 weeks she said 'MY, isnt she long!' So not too long to wait to see how much my Big Girl weighs!

Hi

Sounds like you will be having a big baby like i am and a few others :) At 28 weeks LO was 4 pounds 9 ounces , and Kiara was a 9 pound 6 ouncer.
Im sure you will be fine hun ive heard of poeple pushing out babies over 10 pounds and do fine  But as long as LO comes out nice and healthy its all that matters

they told me when i was having cameron at 34 weeks he was 6lb 10 and i thought the same as you, omg i was scared,

5 weeks later he was born, 6lb 12 1/2 :rotfl:

wouldnt worry about the weights to much, they do get it wrong sometimes..

I had my last growth scan at 29+3 and they said he was about 3lb 9oz. I've got another one in 4 weeks. I'm measuring about 3cm bigger than my dates at the minute. One of the midwives estimated that he'll be around 8lb something when he's born. I can deal with that, I just don't want him to be a 10lber!

I had a 6lb 12 at 35 weeks last time.

This time at 38 weeks, they told me that Sam was around 7lb, when he was born 2 weeks later he was 7lb 10oz so they were pretty accurate.

I suppose your baby could have had a growth spurt Flame. I know they do get the measurements wrong sometimes but surely a scan would be more accurate? :|

I remember being told I was having a "big baby" last time around. My son was born just under 4 weeks early and weighed 5lb 2oz! Not big at all, I was carrying a lot of extra fluid. :)

It's good that they are keeping an eye on you and giving you extra scans. I hope you continue to feel well.

With me I have found the the bigger the baby the easier it was to push out. Nathan was quite easy at 9lb 5oz. The MW said to me its usally the small ones that give you the trouble. Don't know how true it was but my smallest was 6lb 11oz and she wasn't any easier for it.

It's all guesstimates until we actually give birth. I was told the day before I had my first baby that she was a touch on the large side and I was looking at 9lb+

How worried was I?

Less than 24 hours later, out popped my daughter, weighing a MASSIVE :fib: 5lb 10oz

I am glad to hear everything's going well Flame

I had a scan at 33 weeks cos I was admitted with a pre-eclampsia scare and they wanted to check the size of Charlie in case they had to deliver him early and the amount of fluid around him. They estimated his weight at 5lb 4oz and he measured the correct size for 33 weeks.
I was so worried when I went full term that I would end up with a 10lb'er but he was a lovely long 7lb 3oz!!!!!
