The time has come to sell our beloved Nissan skyline due to the fact it costs too much to run. The insurance is due in december and it'll be about £1000!! So anyway, we want to trade it in for a small engined diesel car but the trouble is not many garages want to take our car for whatever reason and if they do they give a cr4p price for it, so we're limited to the choices. We want a car that has 1.5cc or below diesel, air con and 5 doors. OH wants to look at 3 door cars aswell cos there are more around to choose from but I don't think they're very safe (if there was a crash the people or future kids in the back may not be able to get out) and as it's gonna be a family car surley it'm more awkward getting babies and small children in and out. OH dont' wanna sell the car privately because of the car it is he thinks there will be alot of time wasters who just wanna get a ride in it  .

What do you think? Is it that bad having a 3 door?

I wouldn't say it was bad but I have a 5 door and my OH has a 3 door and it is so much easier to have a baby and a 5 door in my opinion

Would never be without our 5 door car now we've got Aaron.

a friend of mine came and picked me and ryan up in her 3 door escort and getting ryan in and out of the car seat in the back was a nightmare, having a big chunky ass dont help lol
but i banged mine and ryans head and got myself wedged behind the front seat, needless to say my mate was wetting herself laughin

I would say 5 door hun, so much easier to get baby in back with 5 doors

My brother has a 3 door toyota celica and I won't go in with Aaron now it is such a pain!

Definately 5 doors. When I have a lift off my mum she's got a 3 door fiesta which is a nightmare with a car seat but if I get a taxi or anything it's so much easier because it's 5 doors.

We had a 3 door when Jess was a baby and it was a nightmare. I was always banging my head or hers, i even managed to trap her fingers to  I wouldn't ever consider a 3 door again with kids.

why dont you sell you're skyline on the skyline owners forum then it wont go to a waster that just wants a ride it will go to a good owner that knows how to work on them and respects the cars :) im guessing it will be the NSOC

were hoping to get a 5 door car soon as i tried to put the car seat in the back and couldnt do it without a lot of banging around first which isnt exactly ideal + my pram wont fit in the boot!!!!!!

Our focus is a 3 door and I have no problems, but it is a reasonable size car, so plently of room for me to stand in the rear footwell whilst strapping Noah in. So I think it depends on the car, if its a small car like a KA or Fiesta etc you will prob do your back in bending and twisting to strap them in. Try the cars out at a garage.

I've never tried putting Lydia in a 3 door. When we bought a car, the main things we looked for was 5 doors with a big boot for the pram + shopping, so that's what we got.

You MIGHT be okay with a 3 door, I suppose it depends on the model. Like the PP says, try some cars out at a garage.

The car we've got is a skoda fabia classic estate - it's great. So big and roomy and it's the lowest insurance group aswell. (okay, for me that still means over £900 a month, but that's because I'm under 25 and don't have any no-claims bonus). But still, it IS in the lowest insurance group.

Me and OH both have 3 door cars, its not so bad now cos Josh is older and he can climb in and out himself but when the new baby comes it might be a bit awkward!

Personally I think 3 door cars look better but obviously 5 door cars are better practically.

That doesnt really help at all does it lol

I have an Alfa Romeo 147 2l. It is lovely. BUT it s a nightmare having a 3 door car! I insisted that i didnt want an 'Old man car' and it had to be a compromise, i was getting rid of my Spider convertable!!!
I will get a 5 door next time, and it will be diesel not petrol. probably a 2.0 TDI Golf.
Id go 5 door hun :(

With kids and a 3 door its a pain in the ass!

Ive got a Y reg astra diesel turbo 1.7, 5 doors, tardis boot, twin airbag, sunroof and air con, central locking and insurance of fully comp with business class for £350 a year. Its the older type astra not the new model (not sure if youre wanting to buy new or 2nd hand)
Cost £14,500 brand new and I had it on lease for 3 years then bought it for £5200 so definately worth looking for 2-3 year old cars.

5! It would be horrendous trying to put a kid in its car seat in a 3 door car-or maybe that's because I am a lard ass! :rotfl:
