Hi gang,

I've got my second midwife appt today, I'll be 16 wks on Thursday.

I can't think of any questions etc to ask whilst I'm there!

Any ideas or advice on what to expect?

Its nothing much at 16 weeks. Take a urine sample so she can test, she'll take your BP, might listen to LO's heartbeat and have a feel, ask how things are and thats about it.

I don't recall having bloods taken at 16 weeks. Had them done before that.

She may say about booking you in for your 20 week scan. That may not come through in the post till you are 18 weeks plus however.

TBH most MW appointments are pretty routine. Urine, BP, occasionally bloods, feeling bump and asking if all is well.

If all is well and you are happy and have no questions then relax and enjoy :)

I've had blood taken at all my appointments but that is probably because I have Rhesus Negative blood. You will probably get the usual blood pressure, a prod to check the uterus and listen to babies heartbeat. Nothing to worry about.

I had my 16 week appointment on monday and it was pretty uneventful to be honest. Took my BP and tested urine, had afp blood test, although that is your own choice if you want it, and felt my tummy. That's about it! It's all pretty routine and boring stuff, this is my 2nd baby so not really any questions I wanna ask, but if it's your first and you have any queries or concerns then ask away, that is what they are there for! Good luck x

thanks for replies.

It wasn't my usual mid-wife so no general chatting - she seemed a bit of a misery! Was in and out in 5 mins!

We listened to the heartbeat, I asked her what the heartrate was and she said 'we don't monitor those at this stage' - I'm wondering could she have told me anyway?

If she only had a Doppler I doubt it. Some have displays but the ones my MW uses don't have a heartbeat display. You just hear is all.

I had mine yesterday and I was 14 weeks is that normal or is it usually 16? I'm glad everything went well
