2 weeks to go and still in disagreement...

Anyone else been in this situation?

We have shortlisted 2 names and will probably use both - just don't know what order until we know what he looks like. I really prefer Jake but hubby is adamant he wants Oliver which has been on the list from the very beginning. He says it doesn't matter what he looks like! I've tried to tell him it's important to me that he actually suits his name but he just loves Oliver so much that anything I say goes in one ear and out the other. I don't know what we'll do as I don't think either of us will cave in on this one! I've been desperately trying to come up with a 3rd name but can't get any that we agree on - I'm lucky that we managed 2.

My advice would be to wait until he's seen you given birth and then let him try to say no to your choice!!! Ha!! I do think that in the heat of the moment when he's seen what you've been through to bring his child into the world and he's all caught up in the emotion of it all, there's a chance he'd say yes to Engelbert if that's what you really wanted. Of course if he suits Oliver when you see him then it's a non-issue, but I'd just wait and see what happens if I were you...

Agreed. This will be my plan anyway as I think I will need to actually see the baby before being able to name them.

I've been in kind of a potential scenario that you could end up in if you go with Oliver... I had my son's name picked out from as soon as I knew he was a boy and my OH and I agreed to call him Caleb. Fortunately we agreed on a name! But when Caleb was born and a week or so old I thought he looked like a George and started to feel guilty that we'd registered him the wrong name because he didn't look like a Caleb.

Fast forward two and half years and he's grown into his name... I think it's funny that I ever doubted it, because I think no matter what they suit their name after a while!

Just put your foot down and say you don't want to decide on a name until he's born and then just see how you feel!

Mylullaby that is exactly how I would like it to pan out haha! He actually said to me that since I get to spend all day with him that he should get to name him - sorry, WHAT.

ft90, I do often wonder if he would grow into his name no matter what we chose. I do like Oliver, but I LOVE Jake.

So I know someone in this situation - she wanted one, he wanted the other an in the end they dud it via Rock Paper Scissors... Sound dumb but there was no other way. Now they hsve 2 girls and they used the 2nd name as their 2nd daughters name

Jake & Oliver are both lovely names. Jacob (Jake as he is always called) Oliver is my brothers name! X
