Thea is 16.5 months old and generally a very healthy child. She's been sick twice since the day she was born so i guess im probably prone to overreacting when she seems ill because im not used to dealing with it.

On Thursday this week we will be flying home for a visit (two plane, Budapest to Amsterdam, Amsterdam to Newcastle) and im freaking because yesterday Thea woke up with an awful cold. She isnt coughing a lot but her nose it really runny. It sounds like her chest is clear is im thinking its a sinus thing.

I want to take her to the Doctors because she is so little and we fly this week. I just want someone to check her and tell me its OK for her fly. Her dad thinks im overreacting and that a doctor wont be able to give her anything to help so whats the point I spoke to my mam on the phone and she agrees (shes just worried that i wont come home lol).

Would you take her to the doctors today or am i being silly? Richard says if she is still the same tomorrow then he would take us then but he thinks going today is premature especially since he cant take time off today so i would have to get a bus and two trams to the Dr's office. He thinks Thea is probably better off in the house where its warm today.

I'll stop rambling now!

do what you think is best hun, but im sure if she just has a cold she will be fine? can you ring them for advice or do you need to go and see them over there??

If you feel she has to go to the doctors Melanie then trust your instincts :D if you think she does then she probably does. :D

I have an friend who works as cabin crew and whenever she has a cold, she's forbidden to fly, she tells me that's because the air pressure can cause the ear drums to rupture. So if it was me, I would probably delay the journey just in case.

I'd take her to the docs if it was my child but thats because the docs give you prescriptions here and you get meds cheaper...but thats just me being stingy. :D If its really really cold out, taking her out might make her better, killing off any bugs...but then the return to warmth might make her worse still and as you are flying you don't want that. If you've got meds at home (cough and flu for kids) just keep her home...but if you are really worried, its your prerogative... trust your instincts.

Yes this happened to my friend's LO. She was told the same thing.

I called her pediatrician, she said that she saw no reason at all to bring Thea in today but she will call in here on her way home from work tonight To check her over :) She wasn't worried about her flying though because her ears are fine, apart from the runny nose she is fine, jumping around the house like a loon and large as life. At the moment she is dancing to the nick Jr lunchtime song! Her ears definitely aren't bothering her at all.

We cant delay our trip unless its absolutely necessary, if Thea was really ill then yes i wouldnt fly but apart from the fact we are talking about over a grands worth of flights down the drain Its my dads 50th birthday party on Friday and we are his surprise!

The Dr also reminded me that Thea has actually flown with a cold when she was a newborn too (again stuffy nose, no ear problems) and she was fine, at least now she can blow her own nose (she learned yesterday lol)!

Awww thats good that you dont have to cancel your flights.

Do you get Nasosil over there? I got it for Arianna and highly recomend it. It's drops for their noses when they are all runny or blocked.

Hope you Dad has a great birthday too!! :D

How's Thea doing today?
Hope you all have a great time at your dad's birthday party, what a lovely surprise :cheer:
