hi girls i've got my scan in the morning and i REALLY wanna know the sex as millie kept her legs shut, if any of you did manage to find out what you're having, was it easy to tell? is it a definate girl/boy answer? and could you see the gender at the scan for yourself? many thanks xx

Hi Calire,
I didn't want to know the sex of my baby when I went for my 20 week scan today, but I did notice this sign on the wall of the waiting room -

"It is this hospitals policy not to tell you the sex of the baby. Therefore please do not ask as rejection can cause embarrasment"

Now I'm peeved coz what if I DID want to know the sex!?!?! :rotfl: :rotfl: Typical female....tell me I can't have something and I WANT IT.....NOW!!!

Good luck for tomorrow, hope your hospital ain't like mine!

I heard that they are more likely to offer an answer if it's a boy because if they think it's a girl, they couldn't be 100% sure as it could be hiding.. but if it's a boy then they'd know straight off.

If that makes sense. Our sonolady seemed to think it was quite obvious, and even though we asked not to know, I assume this means she thinks it's a boy.

Though I could be completely wrong of course lol

We couldn't tell with our 1st little girl as she had her legs shut too and the cord between them. With Nathan and Aimee they were sure of the sex and it was quite clear to us too. With Aimee they had to point it out but when they did you could clearly see the lines and with Nathan I seen it before they even told me.

I asked the lady at my scan if she could tell, and she knew exactly where to position the scanning wand thing, then paused it on the screen but it just looked blurry to me  I wouldn't have been able to tell myself, but the lady said there were no dangly bits so it's a girl lol

Hope you get to find out

thanks everyone, couldnt sleep last night, far too excited! i'll be gutted if i cant find out

It was really obvious to both myself and my DH and the sonographer that it was a boy!!

I have to say I thought I saw "something" at the 12 week scan. We had a private scan at 16 weeks and the boy bits were 100% evident and we were talked through the two boy bits and shown picutres on screen (she didn't print those pictures!! Hehe) but at the 21 week scan it was very obvious indeed, yes we could see everything again in all it's glory so 100% certain it's a boy. We were told at 12 weeks that they don't say even if they can tell (gender becomes visable to the naked eye at 12 weeks but can be harder to detect on the ultrasounds unless it's a 3D etc) and then at the 16 weeks they said although they will tell us and told us how certain they were, i.e. 75% certain or 90% certain etc she told us they would never say "100% guarenteed" type thing. The 21 week scan she said she'd tell us if we wanted to know (some hospitals don't due to populations of heavier religious or racial influence etc and women being under pressure to provide the "correct" gender) and again we were just given a percentage but being shown the boy bits in full detail on both the 16 and 21 week scan were now over 1000% certain it's a boy!! It really depends on the hospital, position of the baby (have some coke or some chocolate before the scan, it get's baby wiggling away and not curled up in a sleepy ball!) and the skill of the scanning person I suppose. If you want to know you'll more than likely get to know. You can always ask for a second opinion and they will then have to get a 2nd scanning person to have a look and offer their view also.

Yeah, some hopsitals have a policy not to reveal the gender, apparently one of the reasons could be a high Asian population in the area.

I wanted to find out the gender and was told it's a girl, but the sonographer did stress that it wasn't an accurate result, so I'm taking it still as 50-50 chance. I know some people who were told it's a boy from the scan but the result turned out to be wrong.
