Ewan is coming up to 18 months and is still in his cot bed with the sides up.
Just wondering when people but their LO in to a bed or converted cot bed to bed?
I was thinking of waiting till Ewan was about to climb over the bars.

Braydon has a cot bed and i intend to keep him in it till he can climb out of it

wot happens wen they go to a normal bed (cot sides off) as B is such a wriggler hell be for ever falling out of bed??

Hi

I was wondering about this the other day. I was thinking that as soon as Isaac is confident walking and can be in his room safely alone (if there ever is such a time?) then I will remove the cotbed sides and buy one of those guards that you attach to the side of the bed to stop them rolling out. I worry that he will get out of bed though and climb on his chair or touch the radiator. I suppose thats not Isaacs' fault, I'm going to have to Isaac proof his room before the bars come off!

I'm looking forward to getting his little quilt and pillow set when the bars come off too!

Thats what i was worried about, oh well at least i'm not the only one! so i will keep him in it untill he climbs out! hopefully he will be able to understand stay in bed then.

the best time to try him in a bed is winter time when the nights are dark.
They tend not to venture out the bed if they can't see.

Me again. I'm not convinced about the waiting till they can climb out thing. I reckon it would be better for them to learn not to fall out of a bed with no bars than climb over the bars and fall out of a cotbed. They are quite high and I know a little girl who lives across the road from me that broke her arm falling out of her cot. Isaac nearly went over the top of his playpen a couple of weeks ago so its been packed up and put in the loft. Better safe than sorry.

I wouldnt wait till he was practically climbing out of the cot, i'm not that silly.
the bars are at shoulder height at the moment, so if they get to chest height i will start thinking about chaging things over.

You don't have to be silly, one day they cant do something the next day they can. You know how it is.

Good luck with it anyway :)

they do bounce well at that age though so don't worry too much if he takes aflying leap out his cot.

Dior has fell out of hers once  she was trying to reach to open the door. she found it so funny and laughed her head of but she did hur herself so aint tryed it again. when i did take her bars of for 1 night she was great it was dark so she just lay there but at 5am she was loving it. and wouldnt have a day nap just sat making cups of tea at her kitchen

Hi

Was wondering the same thing as i didnt want to buy a new cot for the new baby if Kiara could go into a normal bed, so i think ill just buy a new bed instead of wasting money on a cot. . I think if i wasnt having the new baby i would keep her in longer though

Lewis has been in a juinior bed since just before his 2nd birthday and for the first few night he was getting out after i'd put him in but he's been fine eversince and i got a side rail from argos which stops him from rolling out he loves his big boys bed! -xxxx- :D

I took the sides off Lewis cot bed when he was 18mths but replaced it with a bed guard as he was a wiggler, he did great no probs at all!!!

He is 4 now and we have progressed to a midi bunk bed hehe how time flys least the cot is ready for new arrival!!

Hi

I put Alice in the cotbed at 16 months as we moved house. I put a bed rail side on and it was brilliant. She loved it. Slept well and got up and amused herself in the mornings for a while. I then found out I was pregnant again when she was 18 months so we brought her a single bed and moved the cotbed into our room for new baby. Never had a problem. I let her chose a duvet covet and she was fine. As budge says winter is best or get a blackout blind. I did get a blind and she never got out.

we have got nathan a racing car bed, its really low only mattress height off the floor so were gonna put him in it as soon as his room is finished. OH is gonna plaster it tommorrow so im hoping by next week hell be in his own room!!!! little scary but nice to have our room back

Oh how wierd we just bought our bubba a racing car bed too! We have put it in his room so that he can get used to it being there for a while before we remove the cot (need cot for baby no 2).
Actually caught him with his foot up on the top of the bars of his cot like he was about to pull himself up and out of it - very scary, although we can prevent this for a bit by putting him in a sleeping bag (it was in the wash that day though!)
My concern is, when we put him into the new bed, if he wakes in the night will he come running out of his room 'just because he can'? What i mean is at the moment he puts himself back to sleep in his cot but if he can climb out of bed and get out of his room and come and shout for his mummy and daddy, surely he will?! Perhaps I should start shutting his bedroom door. Oh gosh all these decisions!
