ive been working for the NHS now for 5 years as a health care assistant, working 18hrs per week, spread over 5 shifts on a 7 day rota, ive been off work on the sick since december last year as i need a breast reduction due to back problems, but obviously now im pregnant cant have surgery until ive delivered the baby

the problem ive got is my employer have decided that they are finishing our whole team due to many reasons, mainly because of a high turnover of staff and the need of district nurses to cover shifts as so many of us are on the sick- i work in a team of 8 and 4 of us are on the sick long term-

my manager and hr manager are coming out on tuesday to discuss what will happen but ive got a few concerns,

the date that we are being told that we will be finished is 31st jan 2007, theyve offered redeployment, but only by way of having to find a position yourself, which in my eyes isnt redeployment anyway as ive not been offered another position in place of my current one, which i am of course unable to do anyway bearing in mind i will be 39weeks pregnant and on maternity leave, and sick leave, til june 2007 at the earliest.

i cant apply for jobs whilst on the sick and maternity leave anyway, what am i supposed to say... sorry im on the sick and not due to return to work til june so can you wait til then and if im fit enough ill take a job :x

by law are they actually allowed to make me redundant whilst im on maternity leave? ive had a medical report from specialist doctor in occ health at work who has stated he cant see me being fit for work immediately after the end of my maternity leave as cant indicate when the operation will take place.

also it states in my letter from work that if i decline redeployment by way of assuming i cant do a position instead of finding the facts i wont be entitled to redundancy pay.
i am not fit to work at all so surely i cant possibly be expected to find a position and apply for one anyway?
