I got a toothbrush and toothpaste from the HV and was told to start straight away. I read the leaflet that came with it and it said not to let baby swallow it and to get her to spit!
Can someone tell me how to manage this? And how to brush without her throwing her head around to stop me?

Spit my eye - no chance! I think it's safe enough just to let them swallow at this age as you only use the teenies wee bit of toothpaste. As for the brushing bit - let me know when you've cracked it as Baillie hhhhhaaates getting her teeth brushed!

Galen loves having his teeth brushed. He just seems to treat it like food and is fine to have me brush them. Although he does like to try to chew the toothbrush and nom the toothpaste. He gets all excited when he sees the tube and brush now and grabs it from me

I never worry about him spitting anything out though. Its only a tiny bit of toothpaste I'm not going to lose sleep over him eating it :D

You can't stop them swallowing it but most of it dribbles out anyway :)

Be very carefull of allowing chewing of the brush though because the bristles come out and they can choke on them. I have written to colgate asking them about possible rubberised toothbrushes to stop this happening but they never replied to me. I have to replace Isaac's toothbrush every couple of weeks because although he will let me have a brush around his teeth he likes to have a go himself and he inevitably ends up chewing at it. :)

Phew. That's good to hear. I was a bit bothered. Tonight was our first proper go at it and i'm hoping she will enjoy having it done soon enough. My nephew used to be obsessed with cleaning his teeth. He's only 4 now!
She's a bit funny about her teeth anyway. I struggle to feel them let alone look as she just hates me going near her mouth these days.

Caught lil miss munching on Tia's chalk the other day... Toothpaste is the least of my worries... I just dab the tooth brush on the top of the tooth paste and give them a quick wipe over in her mouth then let her gnaw on the brush
