Tampons after birth

It's driving me mad having to use pads and was wondering when everyone went back to tampons. I had no stitches and only a small tear and feeling normal down there again now so want to use tampons again but don;t know if it's still to early.

Bleeding started to slow down a few days ago but has come back bright red again so was wondering if this is maybe a period.

It's unlikely to be a period this early, I found the bleeding was stop start for about 4-6 weeks and then I eventually had a period at 8 weeks. I wouldn't use tampons until at least your 6 week check with your GP as there's a big risk of infection. It's not nice but it's not forever!

i used pads for my post birth bleed each time.

i didn't go back to tampons until my next normal period.

i was so much happier using pads, i could see if i had clots and how much i bled etc.

also i was more likely to change the pads regularly, then 'forget' about the tampon and letting it build up.

i hate the feeling of used pads so i changed so much more frequently than if i used tampons, but i was so glad to go back to them!

I was told not to use pads until after my 6 week check so I could see any clots.

As mentioned above, there is a risk of infection by using tampons.

My bleed is also a bit stop start, and think it's planning on being like that for a while yet

I remember asking my midwife about using tampons, and she said you should NOT use them due to (like the girls said) clots and risk of infection. I know they're horrible, but stick with the pads for a while longer.

Yeh this will just be your after birth bleed... you need to wait until your periods start again properly.

No, No, No! Don't use tampons til 6 weeks!!!

Lochia is not the same as a period and there is a risk of infection when using tampons so please don't!

I would agree with all of the above - wait until you have your next period. On the plus side, I didn't have a cycle until 6 months after delivery and a friend of mine went a year - so at least you get a break from it.
