ive found that just picking them up and cuddling them is the easiest way.my daughter is the best guinea pig tamer lol our 3 piggies take food from your hand and sit on yor knee quite happily,i think its just building up their trust.they like being spoken too as well.i talk to ours quite often im sure people think im mad
Sometimes even the tamest of pigs hate the initial picking up - only one of mine ever stood still. I think it's that their instincts as prey creatures run deeper than their experiences, so something coming in to get them makes them move.
we have only had ours since they were tiny and always grown up with us, but they grew tame more and more as we held them more and let them run around all over us,
the young one is 7 weeks old
and the older one is just over a year i think.
both do the popcorning thing which i think only youngsters do - am i right?
the older one is really tame and i suppose the little ones improving. i let the kids handle them a lot which i think is good coz they seem to like being spoken to in high pitch voices which kids have naturally got
last night i had them both out when the kids went to bed. I let them run around on the settee with me. they loved it!
Lots of bribery too. If you handfeed them veggies when they're out the cage this will go far in taming them. Coriander is like catnip for cavies, as is Romaine lettuce. Few piggers can resist!
I've got piggies that still popcorn age 4... though they're chubby so they bounce and wobble too.
I went to the east coast last week for a few days and we visited natureland in skeggie and there were a lot of piggies there. They were really FAT though
my black pig is skinny really in comparrison. Im trying to fatten him up as he is under weight according to the vet. poor little man.
