okay....need some opinions my partner is a special constable (same powers as a regular copper and same equipment) only diference is he doesnt get paid , he volunteers.

our local force are now recruting regular officers and he has told me i should apply...id love to as i was in the last stage of my application for the special constabulary when i found out i was prgnt with my LO in 2006 so i had to drop out.

my only concern is that im now "chubby" and majorly unfit but OH has told me he will help me get fit again....im also very very poor with maths and worried ill fail on that area as i just scraped it with the specials and that is 120 marks lower than the regulars.

so i have until 4th mrach to decided as its the first 200 applications in first come first served after the 200 the rest are rejected.

so should i apply ? can i do this even tho im out of shape? the job is not a problem i have always liked the idea of the police force....help me ladies

i think if thats wot u really want to do then u should give it a go

Oh god I'm the one to ask about police stuff.. lol I have nearly been a Special (but moved house), got into the PCSO's, dated several PC's...

If you want to go for it and there are a limited amount of places, just go for it or you'll regret it. You can only do your best, and you can always say no later down the line if you think that the lifestyle or job isn't for you. The recruitment process (in West Mids, not sure about your area) is somewhere between a year and 18 months, which is a lot of time to change your mind if you decide it's not what you want.

But unless you apply you'll never know.

If you fail the fitness or the maths, then so be it. But you will know you gave it your best shot.

Only thing I would say is bear in mind the hours are not particularly family friendly, and if you will always resent the job for not allowing you as much home-time or mummy-time as you want, then don't take the job on. A job is a job, but family is for life.

Best of luck chick in whatever you decide to do  x

BTW Have you considered the PCSO's? The hours and job are a lot better and the pay isn't a lot less than the PC's. :D

I agree with Sarah, if its what you want to do then go for it!

hey hun

the fitness test is one of the last stages after you've done nearly everything else . so you've a bit of time to work on it

hubby said the bleep test isnt all that bad tbh .

i wish i had the job satisfaction that my hubby does in his work , he loves it .

yeah my OH loves being a special but he doesnt want to do it full time ..where as me..i think id love it. i know the hours are not too family friendly but here they do 4 nites/days on then 4 off. and if i did get thru byt the time i get appointed LO would be almost 2 so id feel better not being with him day after day as he would be much older. i always said id b a SAHM for the first year or 2 then go back to work. and i think this could be the job for me :D and its good money :cheer:

if i apply then i will keep u all updated with the process

i say go for it if its what you really want to do :) coincidently ive just applied too... lol

you've nothing to lose by just applying...

good luck x

I say go for it Twinny. It'll be a good incentive to get yourself back in shape and it sounds to me like you want to do it in your heart of hearts so I say....yeah!
