question to mums with more then 1 child

after pains... what are they and y do u not get them with your first, feels like contractions, i asked midwife she said oh have u had baby b4 i sed yes she sed it will be after pains then u get them after your second child and they get worse the more u have..

how long do they last for.. they are sore any tips on easing the pain...

not sure why we suffer with after pains with 2nd babies but mine only lasted about 3-4days after taylor was born. as for easing the pain i just took paracetamol seemed to ease it a little.

Hi Dionne and Huge Congratulations to you and your family with the safe arrival of baby boy!!

I had terribly afterpains with second baby. Was like contractions every time I breastfed my baby. Lasted 2 days, but had absolutely nothing with 3 baby! Nurses kept on giving me paracetamol for pain which I didn't have. They didn't believe me and kept bringing the pills.......

Anyway, we're all so different. Who knows, you might not get any at all. If you do, just breathe as if you were in labour!!

ps. how do you manage to go on internet whilst still in hospital? Sounds like very glam hospital

yep its a brandnew hospital its a flaat screen that pulls round infront of ya bed 4p a min, but i ahd to let u girls no as soon as i had him...
i have got the after pains and am doing my breathing techneics

Every hospital has those tellys now, Andy was watching footy while i was in labour!!

I have really bad after pains, but mine turned out to be a uterine infection which was what made it worse, but with me still had the placenta left in i don't think that helped.
I had my pains for about a week and half but like i said i had an infection so i don't think it would normally be that long. It's you uterus contracting back down isn't it? It usually hurts more the 2nd time as your uterus is alot more stretched.

I had after-pains with my first child, but the midwife told me to expect them, I had never heard that it was only with subsequent births.
